Chapter 51: A Girl, A Vampire, And A Flamethrower

NORI’S POV

“Tell me what’s happening!” I have to shout at the two vampires serving as Buffy’s current minders.

“Both Becca and Gio are dead, caught by alien fire. We came up against a group moving toward the city. We could’ve handled them but other groups kept joining. We’re outnumbered out there, ten to one,” a female vampire tells me.

“Buffy,” I say, getting down on one knee to talk to the child, “I need your help. I think, if we can get you into one of those backpack canons the aliens wear, that you’ll be able to use it against them. Are you willing to try? I’ll stay with you the whole way.”

“Will that help protect Avis?” the girl with the doe eyes asks.

“Yes,” I answer.

“No,” Milo says.

“She may be our only chance,” I tell him.

“She’s a child. Isn’t it you who always touts the law that the Cauldrons do not endanger children?” he flings at me.
