Chapter 22: The Thorny Rose

My relaxation session lasted for a total of ten seconds. Raphael's men were coming to see what all the noise was, and I wasn't in any shape to fight them. I ran to Rose, standing under her, and told her to jump.

As any rational person should, she was hesitant but ultimately jumped. Catching her, I ran in the opposite direction from the sound of Raphael's men. Luck was finally on our side as the teleportation crystal managed to get us to the surface level, and with a bit more luck, the first door I broke through led us outside.

But I couldn't stop running.

I could hear Raphael's men right behind us, so quickly surveying the land, I ran into the woods from what looked like an abandoned church where we were imprisoned. With no one outside or patrolling in the forest, I could quickly shake most of them off our tails, popping out of the woods to find the city's walls towering over us.

"Um, Ash, can you put me down?" Rose said, shifting my focus to her.
