Chapter 37: Trial Of The Damned

King Laxon sat back down as his laughter calmed and then bowed.

"Forgive my brutish performance, but I had to put on a show to see what kind of people you truly were," King Laxon said and raised his head. "First off, know that neither my Empire, nor I, mean you any harm, and I don't plan to punish the men who I now know saved my daughter because she was a child in need and nothing more."

"W-What? Then was this a test?" I asked, confused.

"It was, young men. But I won't lie. It was also to itch my curiosity and witness just how powerful you two honestly were. And how frightening it was! Nonetheless, you both showed restraints. If you were nothing more than some pawn of someone wishing for my death, my head wouldn't be here. As I still have it, I now know you're just normal people."

"I wouldn't call them normal," Rose added.

"No, I suppose not!" King Laxon roared with a laugh. "Far from it!"

"I'm sorry, but why would you test us?" I asked.
