As a child, Elaina Mason lost her parents to the darkness.  Orphaned, the girl was taken in by the brethren, raised to be one of their elite.

　　"But first...." Ezra continued snapping Elaina out of her excitement.  "I would like to tell you a story."


　　"A story?" Elaina asked confused.  Was right now even the time to be telling a story?  Her friends and comrades were on the losing end of a war, time was of the essence.


　　"Don't worry, they will be fine until I am done." Ezra assured her.  "This story is important and one that you need to hear."


　　"Why do I need to hear a story?" Elaina asked not quite understanding.  "Will it tell me anything about how to win this war?"
