Chapter 20: Rage

  Layla's gaze slowly moved to look at the doorway, her hand instantly let go of my jaw in reflex. From what I had identified as malice in her eyes it unexpectedly turned into terror. She hastily stood up, taking a few steps backward in progress. The uneasiness in her movements was too evident to be ignored.

  On one hand, where the sight of Kaden made the fear combust in Layla, on the other hand, I found myself the long-lost relief returning within me thawing the ice that had coated my insides.

  Kaden's gaze got fixated on me, the anger in his eyes remaining unsettled but that was not directed at me. I tried to get up, but my arms didn't manage to support me as much as they needed so didn't my knees. It was then I realized when the sharp pain ripped through my knees that they were bruised, my hands were not in the best condition too.
