Chapter 2 Rebirth, Meet Again

Haley remembered that she had been poisoned to death. She could still feel the pain burning her whole body.

But what's going on now?

Haley sat up and looked around. The decoration she had never seen before, and instead of darkness, there was a color she hadn't seen for a long time.

"Haley!" When the door opened, a man rushed in with an unbelievable look on his face. He held her in his arms and kept shouting, "Harvey! My daughter is awake!"

Not long after, Haley figured out the situation from the conversation between the man and the doctor. She was reborn in the body of a ten-year-old vegetative girl who was also named Haley. She changed from Haley Bolton to Haley Smith.

This man was her father, George, a junior commander of the second column, and the doctor was her father's friend, Harvey, a military doctor of the second column.

There was no Lord in George's family. Apart from his military position, the family was just an ordinary family. Three years ago, her family had a car accident, her mother died, and Haley became a vegetable. After that, even the servants were the only ones left to take care of Haley.

What a simple family relationship it was! Haley sighed in her heart. When she was a child in the Bolton family, she had to learn all kinds of manners to deal with her countless relatives, and she had to deal with the tough servants. Now she was much more relaxed.

After resting for some time, Haley gradually accepted the reality. Her home was now in an independent building far away from the aristocratic circle. When she walked out of the door, it was no longer a gorgeous fountain, but a street full of life.

It was extremely easy to get information from such places.

Listening to the gossip of the ladies, Haley knew most of the things she wanted to know. For example, it had been three months since the Burritt family announced her death. Chris was ordered to continue fighting in the border cities after being decorated as General Harry. What made her most concerned was that Lucas, who could have also been decorated as a general, was demoted to the position of communication officer.

In the evening, George rushed back home in a carriage. He went into the courtyard and closed the door. After excitedly calling Haley down, he took out gifts from the carriage.

"Candies, dolls, octopus boxes, scented pouches..." George read the list of gifts as he took them. It could be seen that he was very satisfied with what he had. After reading, his rough face showed an expression of expectation and nervousness. He rubbed his face with his hands unnaturally. "Haley, I didn't know what to get you, so I bought everything. Do you like them?"

"Yes, I do." Haley looked at the gift in front of her, revealing a smile that was in line with her present design. There was a string plucked deep inside her heart. In the past, when her father and mother were still alive in the Bolton family, there had been such a period. Until that day... Haley's eyes unconsciously sank.

"If you don't like it, tell me and I'll buy it for you!" Hearing Haley's words, George was happier.

After George carried all the things into Haley's room, he volunteered to cook a delicious meal for Haley as a father and then went to the kitchen to do his work.

Haley sat at the window, enjoying the breeze blowing over his face and the city view with a sense of life. Suddenly, she saw a familiar carriage style, a dark green pumpkin carriage with hollowed-out gold edges.

This carriage was... Haley's eyelids twitched. She had a bad feeling and saw the carriage stop in front of her house from a distance. To verify her guess, Haley ran from upstairs to the stairway, revealing half of her head. When the door opened, a maid came in with someone.

The messy brown hair and slovenly military uniform, the handsome face, but with that annoying expression. That was Lucas, who disliked her and was demoted as the communication officer recently.

Seeing her old friend, Haley snorted with a faint smile.

When George walked out of the kitchen, he didn't get angry as she had expected. Instead, he looked like they were having a good time.

After a short while, George turned his head and saw Haley hiding on the stairs. "Haley, don't be afraid. Come down. Brother Lucas is not a bad man."

Brother Lucas? Hearing George's coaxing voice, Haley rolled her eyes in her heart. She pretended to be timid and hid behind George like a child.

"Miss Haley, this is Lucas." Lucas approached with a smile, knelt on one knee, raised his hand, and kissed her.

Haley's body was only ten years old, and because she had been lying on the bed for three years, she was particularly petite compared to Lucas. Even if Lucas knelt on one knee, Haley was not much taller than him. With this understanding, Haley more or less felt aggrieved. She withdrew her hand and then hid behind Lucas.

"Haley hasn't seen anyone for a long time. Colonel Lucas, please don't mind." For Haley's avoidance, George protected his daughter very well.

"It's okay, uncle George. I've been in the military camp for a long time and I'm used to being rough. It's me who scared Haley." Lucas stood up and smiled, seeming not to mind it at all.

George invited Lucas to have dinner. The two men chatted at the table. For some reason, the two men with a huge age difference somehow always had a sense of affection for each other. They talked about the daily life of the military camp, such as the new equipment, what they looked like, and how they felt.

Haley murmured while eating. But she didn't say anything.

In a sense, she was very afraid of Lucas. Although Lucas looked slovenly, he was a very sensitive person who was easy to find flaws. He found something unusual from small things and then chased after the truth he wanted to find.

It was hard to believe. As the only person who knew her secret before, the opportunity he found was only the dark print on her handkerchief.

Suddenly, the topic at the table changed to Haley. After George passed the happy period of his daughter's reunion, he was also thinking about Haley's future. Haley had been sleeping for three years, and she needed to strengthen her body and knowledge.

"I've had to stay in the military camp for a few days from time to time, so I haven't had time to accompany Haley. Colonel Lucas has been a communication officer recently. You were good at both literature and martial arts. If you have time, please help me accompany her." The atmosphere between the two was just right. George raised his glass half-jokingly and half-seriously.

"Uncle George, I'm the only child in my family. If you want, Haley is my sister. I'll be with her when I'm free." Lucas seemed to be a little drunk too. His face was a little red, which made his face more beautiful. Haley glanced at him for a while.

Hearing the conversation between the two, Haley smiled bitterly in her heart. Her father was relieved. He was not afraid that Lucas was a freak.

After dinner, the two of them were too drunk to get up. Haley had no choice but to ask the maid to take Lucas to the guest room. Lucas was not good at drinking, so he was unconscious today. Standing by the bed and looking at his red face, Haley couldn't help pinching it. Seeing that he frowned in pain, Haley had a happy feeling of revenge.

When she was in the military camp, she cooperated with Lucas many times, but most of the time, she hated Lucas not because of the different marching ideas, but because he was the only person who could see through her mind. Since he knew her true identity, he had bared his nose at the idea of her.

"If you give others the right to fight, you will get yourself killed one day." Lucas once told Haley. Now it seemed that what he said was right.

"Haley." Lucas was so drunk that the words he said couldn't be heard clearly. He sat on the bed and fell on Haley's shoulder defenselessly. In Haley's eyes, he looked very obedient.

"I'm here." Haley was still immersed in her memory and didn't feel anything wrong. Hearing Lucas's murmur, she replied subconsciously.

"Harriet, don't go." Hearing the reply, Lucas seemed to be stunned. He changed his posture and held Haley tightly. "Don't go."

"Okay, okay, I won't leave." Haley patted Lucas's back. Following his words, she thought that a drunk man was troublesome. When Lucas finally stopped moving and lay down, Haley breathed a sigh of relief. She tucked in the corner and walked out.

The door was closed. The man who had just fallen asleep slowly opened his eyes and looked in the direction of the door. Half drunk and half awake, he lowered his eyes and muttered to himself in disbelief, "Harriet?" He used to call Haley like this.
