Chapter 46

Ruby

Ruby had no idea where the assassin on her tail, Brady, was, but figured if he'd followed them all the way from New York, he had to be somewhere close. After Rose's tribe and Tommy were in bed, Ruby dressed in clothes, fresh and clean thanks to Rose.

In the moonlight from the narrow kitchen window, Ruby slid out the knives from the kitchen drawer and concealed them in her boots, saving one for her waistband tucked under her shirt. As she snuck toward bathroom, her breath caught when Tommy rolled over. Darkness surrounded his form, but she could still make out his six-foot frame draped across the small couch. Had he seen her? All afternoon, she'd taken this path in the house as often as possible to know where the wood floor creaked and shifted underfoot. She'd practiced finding the soundless spots in order to sneak out of the house and track down Brady.
