I stood in front of a colossal being with glowing eyes and mouth, surrounded by the most powerful being in the world, dragons. Next to me was a shape shifted dragon in the form of an elf. The room was lit up by flames and the scale of everything around was ginormous.
What the colossal being said stunned me. He knew my name from my past life. A name I became distant with after being reincarnated here. Sung Hei, a name I was once familiar with but now distant to.
"How'd you know my name?" I asked the being.
He looked at me with his piercing glowing eyes, a stare that could kill a person. "How would I not know? I'm the reason why you came here." He spoke out in the same extremely deep voice. A voice that was as deep as a dark abyss.
I take a deep breath and pluck up the courage I once had. "Mind explaining to me why I am here then?" I asked with confidence.
He rose up from his throne made of some material I have never seen. He stood taller than the dragons and much larger. I was surrounded by beings that were not humans but beings that were passed humans. These beings were demigods.
"The explanation is simple… Your soul from your former life was… carried through to this body and life. What happens in your former life stays a mystery." He gradually explained, dramatizing it slightly.
"What happened to Artorius' true soul then?" I asked him, curious about how souls can be transferred from life to life.
"Dead. Artorius Dorman is dead." The being said with power in his voice.
I felt intimidated but I did not falter. I had one last question in mind. "Who are you then?" I asked the titan.
"God. To be exact, I am the God of Death. I do not have a name but you humans named me. Mori is what I go by if you want to call me by a name."
"Mori… Latin for Death." I whispered.
"As you see. This world is not much different from your past. A lot of names and the language are still the same. The only difference is the writing which is different. Albeit you are fluent in understanding the writing and speaking."
I thought for a moment and tried to wrap my head around this absurd situation I've found myself in. "Okay wait. I understand that you replaced Artorius with me. But why me?" I asked him.
It was a question that plagued my mind. The first thought that came to my mind was "Why me?" and "Why am I here?". None of those questions were answered even after the time I've spent here.
The God looked at me, thought for a moment before speaking. "Why? You tell me. Would you be better in your old world or this world? A world where you're below average or a world where you are a king?"
What he said was true. In my past life I was nothing but a college student. There was one special ability to me though, that ability passed on with me to this world still. The ability to have no remorse and massacre my enemies.
In my past life I grew up in a crooked town. Thugs, bandits, you name it. As far as I could remember I was taught self defense and how to use weapons to fend off attacks. We moved out of the place when my father got a better job in a safer town but that did not mean I lost all the abilities I learnt.
"You will need to know these moves for however long you are alive. These will keep you alive longer." Those words rang in my ears as clear as broad daylight. "Never give mercy to those that have wronged you." A quote I still remember my father told me.
The Sung Hei before college was quiet but popular. I had good grades and friends but I lost touch with them once I made it to college. I was no longer popular and my friends moved away. I was left alone and by university I was… completely alone.
I fell into deep pondering about this but then got snapped out of my train of thoughts. "That's enough thinking. Now is the time for the real reason I brought you to my realm." The God said with excitement.
He extended his hands in front of him. A bright round glow came out, floating just above his palms. It reminded me of a mana core, or what the books depicted as a mana core. A glowing ball of mana that stored all the mana.
The sphere seemed to be spinning and causing some sort of reaction. I was dumbfounded and curious as to what he was doing. Suddenly the orb disappeared and an oval shaped object was left in his hand.
He turned towards me and knelt down. His hands were huge and the round object he had in his hand was miniscule compared to him. "Take it." He said handing me the object.
It was quite decently sized in comparison to me. It was like a chicken egg but slightly bigger. It filled up both of my palms as I held it like a child. "What is it?" I asked the God.
"What does it look like to you?" He asked me instead.
I looked at the thing and thought for a moment. "A decently sized egg."
"Spot on." The God said, sounding quite excited.
An egg this size? But from which creature? "Which creature's egg is this?" I asked him.
He looked at me with a mischievous smile. "Find out in a minute."
And so the egg cracked open. I freaked out for a moment but I held it together. The elf dragon that was beside me smiled and moved away behind me. It scared me that he won't stay near me and the God of Death is staring right at me.
It slowly creates more cracks. A piece breaks off revealing the creature inside. A tiny claw breaks through and comes out of the shell. Slowly the entire shell cracked into pieces and out came something that I did not expect.
The tiny creature that came out of the egg was a newborn dragon. It opened its eyes revealing its yellow eyes. It looked at me in curiosity before squealing.
I stared back at it and brought it closer to my face. The baby was joyful and healthy. "So what do I do with him?" I asked Mori.
Mori looked at me and smiled. "He seems quite happy with you. Why not raise him yourself?" He said with an annoying smile on his face.
I looked up at Mori and smiled. "So you're just giving me a pet dragon?" I asked him.
Mori seemed amazed by my answer. "Yes." He answers simply.
"Why me though? Why would you give me this dragon over someone else?"
"You're special. You're not from this world. You will need the extra help this dragon could give." He told me. I saw the opportunities with this dragon and was quite excited.
"Well then. Thank you very much. I'll take my leave." I said before turning around with the dragon in my hands.
Mori panicked and called out to me as I left. "What do you mean leave! You're in front of the God of Death!" He exclaimed.
I knew he was a God but I wanted to mess around with him. It's a once in a lifetime moment to mess with a God. "What else do you have to say?" I asked him.
"W-well, I am the God of Death. Don't you have any requests or questions? It should be an honour to meet a God." Mori said pridefully.
I looked at him with a face screaming unamused. "There's many Gods. I don't think meeting one is a big deal. Afterall I am a king." I said with an annoying smirk on my face.
"You have quite the guts. I should be taking your soul away from your body permanently but you've shown me what a king is. You may take your leave then." He said while sitting down on his throne and resting his head on his arm.
Suddenly everything around me starts to glitch and disappear. Everything loses colour and becomes white. While this happens Mori speaks and tells me something. "Let's meet again, King Artorius Dorman." He said before everything becomes white and then suddenly dark.
I opened my eyes and realised I was on the floor of my bedroom. I felt something nuding against my left cheek. I got up and scratched my eyes clear of the blur. A sudden squeal could be heard but I was not sure from where. I then realised what it was. The baby dragon.
I turned around and found it wagging its tiny tail and smiling at me. I felt my heart squeeze from how adorable this thing was.
I picked it up by its wings and held it in my hand. "What do I do with you now?" I thought to myself.
Suddenly a voice rang through my ears. A high pitched voice of a child. "Daddy!" The voice said in the cutest voice.
I panicked and looked around my room. "A child!? From where?" I exclaimed.
The dragon starts squeaking as if it's laughing at me. "Was it you?" I looked at the dragon and asked.
The dragon looked at me. "It was! Daddy is so funny!" The same voice says in excitement. "I'm quite hungry…" It says in a more saddened voice.
"You can talk!? How come your mouth doesn't move when you do so?" I asked, curious of this dragon and its ability to talk.
"We're using telepathy! I can only speak to you as you're my parent!"
I decided to give this telepathy a try. I started speaking in my head now. "Can you hear me like this?" I asked in my mind.
"Loud and clear!" The dragon replied back in telepathy.
Amazing! This means I can hide it in my pocket and not deal with it. Now that I think about it I haven't named the dragon. "What gender are you?" I asked out loud.
"I'm obviously a girl. How could you not tell!" The dragon exclaimed.
"Sorry! It's just that your kind of creatures are hard to differ." I apologised to the small dragon.
I dropped the dragon on my bed and sat down on my floor, thinking of what to name it. The dragon jumped around my bed and played around. Suddenly she jumped on my shoulder and climbed on my head while I thought about a name.
There were a few names that came to mind but only two stuck out. Then I was stuck with a genius idea.
I took out two pieces of paper and a pen. I wrote two names that I decided on. She looked at the names while I wrote them and became curious. The two names were Rosalina, similar to my mother and Iris.
I put the names down on the ground and picked her up. I placed her in front of the papers which she looked at with curiosity. "Here are two names that I liked. Pick what you like from here." I told her.
She looked at the name thoroughly and made a move. She moved towards Rosaline but then looked at Iris. She couldn't make up her mind either. "I don't know which to choose!" She exclaimed in frustration.
"Neither can I, which is why I asked you to pick."
She thought once more but still couldn't make up her mind. Then I thought of another name.
"How does Amelia sound to you?" I asked her, hoping this would give her another choice to pick from.
Her eyes lit up and she wagged her tail. "I love it!" She squealed in joy.
"Well then, Amelia it is!" I said, excited to finally get this naming issue past us.
The sun was already rising and I felt energized. It seems that after being taken to that realm my body here got enough rest. It was quite early but I had work to do.
"Amelia, I have to explain to you something." I told her while bringing her down from my head and placing her on my bed. I rested my arms and head on my bed and looked at her.
"I am a king if you hadn't realised and you're a dragon. Dragons are not found in this place which means you gather a lot of attention. I'm sorry but having you around me is dangerous. You will have to be inside my pocket or something if you want to come with me." I explained to her.
She looked at me, slightly saddened by what I told her. "Well, what if I turn myself invisible?" She said casually.
I became bewildered by what she said. "You can become invisible!?" I exclaimed.
"Yes! I can go invisible and I can also shapeshift into a few different creatures." She explained to me.
"Wait, what animal can you become?" I asked her.
"Well I can only become a fox now. I can change into any animal as long as I drink their blood." She explained further into her ability.
I thought for a moment as this was the first I heard of this ability. "Can all dragons do this?" I asked her.
"Nope, only me!" She exclaimed
So that's why Mori gave me this dragon.
"Turn into a fox then. This way I can sneak you around."
Suddenly she starts to glow and her body figure starts to change. I became astonished and stared as she became a fox right in front of my eyes.
Her figure changed to a red baby fox. The shade of red was similar to my own hair colour. I was quite stunned.
"You look… ADORABLE!" I shouted as I stared at the small red furball. I picked her up and her fur was really soft unlike her dragon scales which were rough and rigid. "You are the cutest thing I've ever seen." I told her as she climbed onto my shoulders.
She giggles and sits on top of my head as usual. Seems like it's her favourite place to sit. I got up and took my coat from the chair and walked outside. It was dawn and Felix would be getting up right about now and I couldn't wait to see his face when he saw Amelia.
I walked down to the foyer to show Amelia around the palace and the actual world itself. No one was around at this time but I suspect this would change in a matter of minutes.
"Woah… This place is so cool! It's beautiful!" She screamed in excitement.
"It is. I was surprised when I came here for the first time too." I told her. I realised that something was different about Amelia. "Aren't dragons supposed to be really prideful and don't bow their heads to anyone? What's with you being so obedient to me?" I asked her.
"We are? I'm not sure since I was only born like an hour ago." She said, slightly confused herself.
"Oh right. Wait a minute, an hour ago!? How are you so smart that you can shapeshift and speak the language of humans?"
This was not normal. Amelia is a different type of dragon it seems. Strange as there was no mention of a different type of dragon breed. Her intelligence and her behaviour was unique.
"I'm a dragon! I am the smartest creature so obviously I'd be able to do all of these!" She exclaimed pridefully.
So that's where her pride is. She knows she's the smartest and most powerful creature but lets her guard down for me since she sees me as her parent. I wonder if this could've been done in the past.
I walked her around the garden where beautiful flowers bloomed. Many beautiful flowers like Iris, Roses, Kadupul and many more that I'm forgetting the names of. Many exotic flowers as well. This was the first time I personally visited the garden as I only walked past it before and after training.
I found a pergola in the middle of the garden with a seating arrangement. I found it quite neat and decided it would be a nice place to sit down at.
"Ooh! What's this thing! It looks really beautiful." She exclaimed with curiosity and amazement from the pergola.
The pergola was quite fancy even to my standards. This was made when my father was in power. As expected he was the kind of person to make everything perfect and extravagant. This pergola was an example of what he was.
The pergola was made of bushes that bloomed different flowers all year round. This time of the year it would bloom white roses. I'm not sure how this even works but I am quite surprised myself.
"This is a pergola, my dear. This was made when your… grandfather was the king. Beautiful, isn't it?" I answered her question
"Woah… It has history! I like this palace."
Amelia jumps off my head and takes a look around the garden on her own. She was like an actual child, quite wholesome. She smelled the flowers and climbed onto the many trees that were present in the garden as well.
I take a deep breath and keep an eye on Amelia as she runs around the whole garden. Suddenly I see a maid coming to me and she notices Amelia. I got scared as to what she would do.
I watched as Amelia looked at the maid with curiosity and the maid looked back at her. Suddenly she kneels down and starts patting Amelia.
"Dad! The lady is patting me! It feels really nice!" She told me in telepathy.
I sigh and smile as the maid pets Amelia. "She's one of the maids in the palace. There's many servants and maids in this palace that would surely love you around." I told her through telepathy. I was still trying to get used to this system.
The maid stops patting Amelia and comes to me instead. Amelia comes with her and sits down on my lap. "Would you like anything, young master?" She asked me.
"Tea would be nice. Oh and get some meat for this furball here." I ordered.
She looks back at Amelia and smiles. "As you say, young master." She says before turning around to leave.
Just before she left I asked her, "Is Felix awake? If so, can you send him here?"
She turns around to answer me once more. "Yes, sir Felix is awake. I will send him here as soon as possible."
She turns back around and leaves. I sit down and pet Amelia while waiting for Felix to come. She seems to like it like a cat.
I lean back into the chair and close my eyes. It was relaxing to have a furry animal resting on your lap while you pet it. The weather was mild and gentle and the sun was not blazing. It was calming.
A few minutes later Amelia perks up and looks at the pathway. I turn around and see Felix heading towards us with tea in one hand and meat on the other hand.
He puts down the meat and Amelia jumps onto the table to eat. Felix takes a seat and looks at Amelia.
"Where did you find this? It's really cute!" He asks.
"I was planning on talking about this to you. This little furball is actually a dragon." I told Felix.
Felix becomes surprised and moves his head backwards due to the shock. "A dragon shapeshifted into a fox? Interesting…" He said as he thought to himself.
"Her name is Amelia and I got her last night. You may have seen me lifeless on my bed but there was more that happened."
Felix listened along with curiosity and concern. "I could tell something was up."
"My soul was taken to a different realm. The realm was quite frightening. You know who the God of Death is?" I asked Felix.
He thought for a moment. "God of Death… I heard of Gods such as God of fertility and God of the stars but never of the God of Death."
"Well, apparently us humans have given him a name. Mori is his name and he is the God of Death. He took me to his realm and answered some of my questions. I'd rather not get into those details."
Felix looked at me, slightly skeptical of my secrecy. "So what happened and what did you see?"
"There were dragons. Many dragons as his soldier. They stood tall and he stood in his throne room. He was bigger than those dragons and had a cloak. He was a colossal titan and had glowing eyes just like a dragon."
Felix didn't question any of my words as I told the story. He for some reason believed everything. "So how did you get this one here?"
"Well believe it or not, I was handed an egg by Mori himself and it cracked open. Out came this little one and it seems to have a special ability."
"What is her ability?" Felix asked excitedly and curiously.
"She is different. She has pride but she lets it down to humans. She knows her worth yet she is willing to listen to us. She also has the ability to change into any animal as long as she drinks the blood of said animal."
Felix becomes bewildered from the abilities that I listed and was taken back. "P-pardon!? A dragon that listens to humans? That's outrageous to think of!" He exclaimed.
I smile at him and then look at Amelia. "Well as you can see, she is quite obedient and listens to me. She speaks to me in telepathy and is like a daughter to me."
Felix gives me a warm smile and looks at Amelia. "Let's just pass her off as your bond."
"Bond? What's that?"
I have never heard of a bond since coming here.
"You don't know? You wanted one years ago. It's when an animal and a human spiritually accept each other as owner and pet." Felix explained.
I looked at him like something clicked in my head. "Oh.. Right…"
Felix sighs and looks at me with a serious tone. "The war is not over." He told me, sending shivers down my spine.
"Why? Lukas is dead and his daughter would not attack, will she?" I asked, slightly scared.
Felix breaks a mischievous smile. "The war isn't over because you haven't announced it yet! You slept through yesterday so the war is technically still ongoing."
I sigh in relief and melt back into my chair. "Oh, well then, today I will announce it."
"Get ready for one hell of a celebration."
