Chapter 3

Riley closes her bedroom door behind her. her heart was beating rapidly like it was going to bust out of her chest. her hands and feet were unstable. she has to leave immediately, she has to leave before they get to her. Then she could hear several footsteps approaching.

She runs to the window. the moment she opened it, the icy wind hit her skin making her shiver. ignoring the cold she looks down and began to rethink the idea of jumping. what if she hurts herself. she thought. she was interrupted by the door that busted open. two men walked in and they carried a shocked expression to see her.

" shit " one of them cursed. there was no time to think. she had to act immediately.

without a second thought, she jumped out of the window and landed on the hard ground, using her hands to support herself. the pain in her foot was unbearably

" fuck " she cries in pain. she had no time. she has to run.

with the icy water hitting her skin. Riley ran, she ran as fast as her legs could carry. she was completely wet but felt so dry on the inside. she had no idea where she was running to, she just kept running, hoping that somehow she will find safety. how could they?. how could Mr Oliver do this to her. Why?. Valentine is her only friend. Riley felt burning in her chest, her heart broken, and she felt lost. all she wanted was to disappear from this world immediately. it was the feeling of being betrayed.

The sudden approaching light and the sound of a moving car overwhelmed Riley with joy. finally, she had been rescued. she turns around and as the realization hits her the joy was taken by anxiety " fuck " she whispered. panting heavily as her legs move even faster. she was running beyond her limit, she never imagined she could run that fast and still it was meaningless. with a blink of an eye, she was surrounded by cars, she stopped at her track using her hands to protect her eyes from the light. it was over, her body was too tired now. she had no idea who these people were or what they wanted with her. but whatever it was, it will not be good.

she squeezed her eyes due to the light. watching as several men came out of the cars. if only she had full control over her powers, it only she could fight back. one of them shot her with something. she felt a needle at the back of her neck. she went blank.

Riley woke up in a small empty room. the walls were spotlessly white, it only had a door, no windows and a small mattress she was sitting on. looking around, where the fuck was she? she wondered. she came down from the mattress and went to the door " hello " she called and tried opening it but had no luck " fucking let me out " she yelled banging on the door " is anyone out there " she yelled again still banging on the door " fuck" she was frustrated

she wanted to know what they want with her. it was better they hit the point instead of locking her up. they must have bought her for a purpose. " you are a noisy one Miss hunter " suddenly a voice said from nowhere

" shit " she screamed

" Sorry, didn't mean to scare you "

" Who are you " looking around like she was going insane hoping to find a camera

" Stop that, it's no use " the voice mocked. Riley ignored him

" Who are you and what do you want," she asked again

" My name is Dr frankly "

" Doctor?" with an eyebrow raised, there was confusion in her tone. what will a doctor want with her " what do you want from me "

" I want something that you also want " his voice was calm

" pardon" his words got her even more confused

" how about we do this, I will let you out of that room so we can talk and you promise not to cause trouble or do whatever magic tricks you do " he placed a deal. Magic tricks, if only she knew some that could save her right now

" talk?"

" yes talk "

" ok," she agreed. at least she will get to know what they want

" Good " he was pleased

after about half an hour of waiting. she finally heard someone unlocking the door. she quickly went to stand in front of the door, as it opened it revealed a man dressed in a medical uniform. he was in his early thirties, with dark hair, brown eyes, dark skin, and average looking. he was an Indian man.

" Hello?" Riley didn't know what to say. he gave a small smile

" I am Dr shiva," he said " Dr frankly is waiting for you. come with me "

Dr shiva lead the way while Riley followed behind him. they walked the dark hallway into an elevator. there was an awkward silence between them and none of them cared to break it. the elevator went down for a while and finally came to a stop. the elevator door opened, revealing the lab and Riley was stunned by the sight before her. it was huge, busy and exciting. scientists everywhere in sight. dealing with their own business. they didn't seem to care about Dr Shiva and Riley's entrance. they were all focused on their work, working on computers, papers and other electronic equipment and it all led to one thing. a very huge machine in the middle of the lab

" wow " a gasp escaped her lips " what is this place," she asked

" This my dear " suddenly some said from behind them making her jump out of shock

" oh Jesus" she whispered

" is the beginning of a new era" it was a man in his late forties, blond hair, most of them have gone grey, blue eyes and smallish in stature. his medical uniform made him look like a high school student but his face told a different story

" you are Dr Frankly?" with an eyebrow, she didn't look too impressed

" Hello Miss Hunter " he smiled but there was something in that smile that was not decent. this gave Riley a little discomfort.

" Just call me Riley," she said

" Ok Riley " nodding" Come," he said. they began walking. Riley used her eyes to travel around while he spoke

" I will not tell you too much. I will just move to business" he said

" am ok with that " she shrugged

" All my life I have searched, search for something that will change the world, save the world and make it a better place. it was meaningless. I began to give up on my search, everything I have worked for, on till you came into the picture "

" me?" she was in shock " what does this have to do with me "

" it has everything to do with you, Riley. you have a great gift. power ability to control anything, to make anything happen. I heard about the explosion" he said bringing back bad memories, Riley frowned. they came to a stop. standing in front of the machine that sat in the middle of the lab " one person made such an explosion" he said in disbelief " I couldn't believe it. it was what I have been searching for " he turns to Riley " you are what I have been searching for. you have the power to change this world "

Riley stood in shock looking at the crazy man in front of her. was he even listening to himself she thought.
