Chapter 17 Chen Brothers

"Now we shall begin the friendly duels. The first one's up will be the Royal Academy First Years against Demonic Cliff Sect's 899th Batch." The Elder declared, in an instant a boy clad in the Royal Academy uniform with a golden badge on his chest stepped atop the stage.

"I ask the Demonic Cliff Sect for guidance." He requested while taking a slight bow. It was clear as day he was already in the 1st Stage, but it wasn't as if there was no one in the 899th Batch. In fact they began to discuss among themselves on who to send out.

"Wen Ping I'll be fighting you today!" A boy jumped onto the stage. He had short brown hair, and brown eyes, but what stood out to Mo Xiaowen the most was his resemblance to Chen Fang and Chen Zemin.

"Oh? I didn't realise you'd be the first to step out Chen Xing. Does your Demonic Cliff Sect have no one else?" Wen Ping replied, getting into a stance ready for combat.

"Hmph! You talk too much." Chen Xing said, before also taking a stance. The referee then gave them a signal, and their fight began.

No weapons were allowed so the battle was a fist versus fist scenario. They charged at one another and threw punch, after punch. Occasionally one kicked the other, or elbowed if necessary, but due to their cultivation being in the same Stage, the battle dragged on and on.

Eventually Chen Xing landed a solid hit on Wen Ping's chest, forcing him to fall onto his knees. "I give up." Wen Ping muttered as he put up his hand in surrender.

"CLAP! CLAP! CLAP! CLAP!"

The audience clapped for the two, after all it was quite the display for two 1st Stage Body Tempering Cultivators. Only Mo Xiaowen was somewhat disappointed. 'One hit to the chest and he surrendered? He even has a golden badge. Is this the level of the Noble Clans?' Mo Xiaowen thought in derision.

In reality his view was simply skewed due to suffering undergoing the pain of Body Tearing Paste and even Body Tearing Grass on a daily basis. Compared to most his pain tolerance was many times higher.

The fights between the First Years and Batch 899 continued for another hour or so, until they were put to an end. There weren't many 1st Stage cultivators on either side, and after Chen Xing's first victory things took a dark turn for the Demonic Cliff Sect, losing every other battle that occurred.

Next the battles between the Third Years and Batch 897 began. Naturally these would be much more intense, and unlike the First Years and Batch 899, they sent out their weaker participants first before building up to their strongest.

Luckily for the Demonic Cliff Sect, these battles were much more balanced ending up with about a 1 to 1 win to loss ratio.

Just as another battle was about to begin a voice sounded. "Enough! Lets end this, Liang Liwei get down here!" A familiar figure jumped onto the stage. It was Chen Fang, and he was not happy.

In his mind since he was part of the Demonic Cliff Sect, it was an extension of himself, and seeing it fare so poorly against the Royal Academy infuriated him to no end.

"Still as arrogant as ever, aren't you?" A scholarly looking boy chuckled, stepping atop the stage. His eyes were brimming with confidence and he had a golden badge on his chest.

"Its not arrogance, you're simply below me." Chen Fang stated matter of factly. No one understood where this confidence was coming from, after all they were both in the 7th Stage and came from Noble Clans. While the Chen Clan was indeed superior, the Liang Clan wasn't all that far off either.

"You may begin."

Instantly Liang Liwei shot towards Chen Fang, his speed had always been his strong suit, fist hurtling towards the boy's face. Seeing this Chen Fang stood motionlessly a smirk gracing his face.

Just as the fist was about to hit Chen Fang, he lazily grabbed it with one hand. "Whale Subduing Palm? That won't work on me!" Liang Liwei declared attempting to pull his fist out of Chen Fang grasp, to no avail.

Immediately Liang Liwei's mind raced, before deciding to try launching a side kick at Chen Fang, but this too was easily blocked. 'How can he take my attacks so easily!?' Liang Liwei was dumbfounded, but before he could think any longer he felt a tugging force.

Chen Fang had pulled him towards him before punching him in the face. Liang Liwei then fell on the floor, his face bruised. "I give up." Liang Liwei could barely hold back his tears as he surrendered.

"Do you understand the difference between us now? While you've been dawdling at the 7th Stage I've already reached the 8th, this is the difference between the rest of you trash and the Chen Clan!" Chen Fang proclaimed, but no one could refute.

Almost subconsciously Chen Fang's eyes moved onto someone, that someone being Chen Zemin. 'To not only be a bastard, but a talentless one at that, you're the only stain on the Clan.' Chen Fang thought his eyes locked with his younger brother's.

'Why are all my brothers so outstanding compared to me...no matter how hard I try I can never compare, even after all this time I've barely reached the 3rd Stage while most of my peers have reached the 4th......and that guy, he's even reached the 5th!' Chen Zemin stewed inwardly.

Finally, the battles between the Second Years and the 898th Batch were set to begin. These would be the most accurate and exciting battles. The First Years and the 899th Batch were simply too green and needed more time, while the Third Years and the 897th Batch couldn't even use weapons and had to hold back.

Because of this these next few battles would be the most exciting. Just as everyone in Batch 898 was getting ready to see who they'd send, a golden haired blue eyes boy appeared atop the stage. As soon as they saw him the entirety of the 898th Batch quieted down.

Mo Xiaowen was confused at this reaction, he was sure the boy was strong but to command such a reaction from them was odd. Just as Mo Xiaowen was about to ask what was going on, the golden hair boy spoke.

"I've grown tired of this, its like I am watching the circus. You Mo Xiaowen, I Shui Long challenge you to a duel!"
