Devil's Echo

I opened my eyes, slowly. The light blinded me, even though it wasn't bright. I sat up slowly on the bed I lay on. It looked like a hospital room. I saw Sakura laying on the side of the bed, her eyes closed. I looked around the room. Izumi sat on a couch near the window. She was also asleep.

Sakura woke up and looked at me. Her eyes got teary, and she jumped at me for a hug. "I'm so sorry. I will never push you for answers again!"

Izumi rubbed her eyes. She still looked very tired. She had dark eyebags, she yawned. "I'll let them know that he's awake-" Izumi was cut off by yelling.

"Haru, you crazy jackass!" I heard Kai. "He's still recovering!"

"TANAKAAA!" Haru yelled. "You damned nerd! You made everyone worried out of their shit!"

Sakura grabbed her keys and summoned the spirit, Libra. "Please balance him out."

"Pinkie, you shithead!"

I clutched my head. It felt like someone was hitting me with a baseball bat.

"Are you alright?" Sakura asked.

"What happened?"

"I- I..."

I held Sakura by the shoulders. "Sakura, what happened last night?"

"You were acting strange."

"Is that it? I know there's more. Unless I'm going crazy!" I hyperventilated.

Sakura slap my face with both her hands. "Breathe, Hibiki!"

I breathed deeply and let it out. "I know there's more."

"Your right." Sakura avoided eye contact. "You sounded different and echoey. Your left eye looked wrong. You also had a high fever. You passed out after our talk."

"HIBIKIII!" Haru slammed the door open. "YOU PIECE OF SHIT!"

Haru grabbed the collar of my shirt and shook me. I went limp as he shook me and stuck my tongue out. Sakura punched him in the face. "You get your dirty hands off of Hibiki!"

After being thrown around by Haru, it felt like my soul left my body.

Natsu opened the door, along with Satsuki, Sora and Akira.

"Oh my gosh, are you alright?" Sora asked.

"You looked like you nearly died, man!" Natsu followed.

"What must one person do to just talk alone?" Sakura growled.

"What happened?" Natsu asked, persistently. "I heard Sakura's voice from across the hall. When I looked outside my room, I see Izumi running out toward your room!"

"I don't know. I don't even remember."

"Are you sure that it'll be safe to compete in the sports festival?" Akira crossed her arms. "With all this, it doesn't seem safe for you or the citizens watching."

'I have to tell Deku about this,' I thought in my head. 'I'm sure he'll know about this.'

After I was released from the hospital, I headed straight back to UA, hoping Deku would still be there. I panted as I reached the entrance of the school. I caught my breath quickly and continued running to the Teacher's Lounge.

"DEKU!"

Deku sat on his chair with his coffee mug halfway to his mouth, the other teachers looked my way. There were other heroes in the room. Dynamite, Shoto, Uravity, etc. Deku put his mug down and looked at the heroes in the room. They nodded. Deku stood and led me to another room.

"Is there something wrong?" He asked once we were sitting on the couch.

"I'm not exactly sure. I can't tell if it's a bad thing or a good thing."

"Well, spit it out." He leaned back on the pillow and threw his arms behind him.

"I can't say for sure, but I may have gotten another quirk. Inherited, maybe? There's no way I can just manifest a new quirk out of nowhere."

"Hmm, that is strange. What is this 'new quirk like, and how does it work?"

"That's just it, I don't know."

"Hmm..."

"I know some people who do though!"

"Tanaka, we can't have anyone else know about OFA."

"It's just two people. what harm can be done?"

"People can be very slander at times. I don't want this to get out."

"It won't get out! They're trustworthy enough to know about this. Besides they're great at avoiding things! And one of them may be your daughter, and Sakura.

"Is that so? Well...if Izumi already knows about OFA, then I guess it won't hurt for Sakura either, since their very close."

Izumi sat on the couch next to me and Sakura on my other side.

"I want to know what happened to Tanaka last night," Deku started. "Explain in as much detail as possible."

"Well," Izumi yawned. "Sakura called me to his room in the middle of the night and sounded freaked out. So I rushed over there. When she opened the door, I saw Hibiki on his bed. Just laying there."

Sakura spoke quietly. "I called Izumi over because Hibiki didn't look good. He was pale, had ragged breathing, sweating and he fainted.

"Did you see anything else?" Deku asked.

"That was another thing," Sakura said. "His eye was weird. It was red and it looked like a gear. It said the word 'Error in the middle.

"I don't remember that," I stared at Sakura. "Error? That's not normal. All of this isn't normal, is it?"

"You might have, believe it or not, manifested a new quirk."

"His voice echoed kind of like a demon." Sakura continued. "It made me feel terrified. Like a negative voice ran through my head. I almost peed myself."

"I healed him throughout the night," Izumi stated. "It looked like it was really beating on him. Made everyone nervous."

"I did have a headache that hurt like hell, though."

All of this didn't make sense to me. But Deku looked like he understood what was happening. "Alright, thank you for the explanation. I have a better understanding now. You can go."

Sakura and Izumi left the room to head home for the day.

"How on earth did a quirk just manifest out of nowhere?!" I yelled, messing up my hair. "And why is it that I can't handle whatever it is?"

"Remember what I said when I gave OFA to you?" Deku asked.

"Eat this!"

"After that!"

"You said that my body would have to build up to handle the power."

"Right. Maybe it's the same for this quirk as well."

"I'm still confused but...what is this quirk even called?"

"Why don't we call it...Devil's Echo?"
