Chapter 23 (All Plan B)
Orlando and the rest had mounted road blocks on the main road leading to the court house. They thought if Keres was going to try and get Diego she would do it when he was on his way to the courthouse and that was going to be their perfect time to strike. But she had Grace cornered and knew of all their plans. The Van taking Diego to the courthouse was going through Fredrick Estate while they announced that they were going through the main road.
"Why isn't she here yet?" Orlando asked
"Relax, maybe she's just trying to stall" Ian said getting down from the car
"Stall?"
"It's already 11.25 am and you say she's trying to stall?" Orlando asked
"She wouldn't possibly be waiting in front of the courthouse would she?" Nikolay asked
"That place is heavily guarded, I don't think so" Ian said
"Why don't you call the officers taking Diego there if they have gotten to the courthouse"
"You never know, she might have just changed her mind about this revenge thing" Ian said
"Or maybe Maeve's in control" Nikolay chipped in
"Hardly doubt that" Ian said as Orlando looked from one of them to the other
"Why are you boys even here?" He asked
"What kind of out of the blue question is that?" Nikolay asked
"Instead of being at school why are you here in the middle of the road trying to stop a psychotic girl who's out to reek havoc and who by the way doesn't care about anyone of you?" Orlando rephrased
"Obviously I have a very good reason" Nikolay said
"And what might that be?" Orlando asked arms crossed
"My Dad. I'm trying to stop her from killing my Dad" Nikolay said
"The same Dad you don't speak to huh?" Ian asked laughing
"And what about you? Why are you here?!" Nikolay asked him
"Well, Keres' a friend of mine and we even shared the same room and all that so I don't want her to do something she would regret later on and besides I want to help her get treatment" Ian replied
"Why are you suddenly bringing up the story of how you two shared a room?" Nikolay asked angrily
"That's a fact" Ian said
"Oh yeah, and not because you like her?!" Nikolay asked
"And what about you? Aren't you using your Dad as an excuse too because you like her?!" Ian asked
"Cut it out!" Orlando shouted tired of the drama
"Why ask in the first place?" Ian said leaning on the car
"So, aren't you going to call the officers?" Nikolay asked
"Right" Orlando said taking out his phone
"It's their voicemail" he said after trying to call severally
"So what now? Call the courthouse to make sure they got there okay" Ian said
"Yes, this is Detective Orlando calling from North Valley CIS" he said as soon as the call went through
Ian and Nikolay exchanged excited looks as he began to speak into the phone
"Has the inmate Diego Lukeman arrived at the courthouse?" He asked
"No Sir, the presiding judge and the jury are all waiting. When will he get here?" The secretary asked
"Shit!" Orlando said and ended the call
"Why?" Nikolay asked
"What's wrong?!" Ian asked
"They haven't gotten there yet. This is so suspicious" he answered
"Who else knows about our plans? We are all here right?" Nikolay asked
"Well, everyone except Detective Grace and that's because..." Ian started
"Grace!" Orlando suddenly shouted
"What?!" The boys asked
"Keres might have done something to her! She said she was going to come late cause of the rain storm last night but now she still isn't here" Orlando said and hurriedly dialled her number
"It's ringing" he said waiting for her to pick up but she didn't
"She's not picking up?!" He said throwing the phone to the floor
"What are we going to do? Keres must have known about all our plans for Diego"
"What if she did something to Grace?" Orlando asked
Legend began calling Nikolay
"I don't have the time for this" He said picking up the call
"What?" He asked
"Um, Nikolay I wanted to tell you that I saw Sally earlier today at the church. I thought they said she was out of the country"
"Did you know?" Legend asked
"What?" Ian asked as Nikolay ended the call
"Legend said she saw Keres at the church earlier today" Nikolay answered
"Look, Orlando go to Grace and then..." Ian started taking out his gun
"Nikolay focus!" He yelled seeing Nikolay zoning out
"Yes, yes" Nikolay said snapping out of his thoughts
"I placed a tracker on my Father earlier so we can know their whereabouts" he said
"Really?" Ian asked throwing a gun at him
"Yes" he answered catching it mid way
"Go to Grace, Orlando" Ian said
"But, can you two handle her?" Orlando asked
"Just because I let her kick my ass doesn't mean I can't do anything to stop her" Ian said
"I'm a professional mercenary" he said cocking his gun
"And if need be, I'll blow her head off" he said looking all stern
The others looked at him in surprise
"I'm kidding. But I could do it"
"Grace!" Orlando yelled rushing out of his car as he got to her house
"Grace!!" He called again pushing the door open
He saw her tied to a chair with a duct tape over her mouth sobbing silently with both her cheeks bleeding. A small tear slid down his cheek. He wiped it off and proceeded to untie her
"Mmmmmmmm..." She muttered inaudible words
"What's wrong?" He asked trying to touch her again
She blinked her lashes to the direction of the pressure wire controller. He turned around and saw it
"Oh my God!" He exclaimed
"I'm so sorry" he said knowing he would have killed both of them if he touched her
"Keres, that monster..." He muttered under his breath as he disarmed it
He took off the duct tape from her mouth and pulled her into an embrace
"It's okay, I'm here now" he said
"She knows all our plans. She went for Diego" Grace said
"Worry about yourself!" Orlando shouted
"We need to get you to a hospital"
"Hey there" Keres said smiling down at Diego
"Ah... Where am I?" He asked
"In a nice place" she said
He opened his eyes to find Keres standing in front of him
"You?!" He exclaimed
"How did you get here? You used the Police officer right?" He demanded to know
"No, dummy I work alone. It was me inside the bus" she said
"The fart smelt was nice right?" She asked
"It was you" he said
"Yes, me" she said sitting in front of him
"What do you want now?"
"I'll be sentenced to jail so what more do you need?" He asked
"You ask as if you don't know" she said cocking her gun
"Finally, I get to have peace" she smiled as she pointed the gun towards him
"Keres, don't do it" he said frightened
She took her finger to the trigger and with an evil smirk made to pull it
"No!" Diego shouted and shut his eyes
The gun went off. A tear slid down his cheek. He was sure he was dead but he could still hear his rushed breathing. He slowly opened his eyes and found Keres lying on the floor with her eyes closed
"What the hell?"
She had missed her killing shot. Maeve had caused the sudden disruption in the killing of Diego Lukeman
"What the hell is wrong with you?!" Keres asked rushing towards Maeve
They were in her mind
"I can't let you kill Diego Lukeman" Maeve said
"Why? Because you like his son?" Keres asked
"Yes, because I like his son" Maeve answered
"Ha.... Don't be ridiculous" Keres said
"He likes Sally and not you" she added
"Isn't that right, Sally?" Keres asked looking into a dark corner
"I'm.... not too sure about that Keres" Sally said and walked out of the darkness. Now, there were three of them
"Oh come on, it was you he confessed to and not her" Keres said
"That maybe right but I still like him" Maeve said
"And I have every right to tell you not to kill Diego! I created you!" she shouted
"What? What am I?"
"A dog that you can tame to do what ever you want to do?" Keres asked
"Even dogs know to bark and bite at intruders and fools with out their Masters telling them to and Diego is just one of them. A dog is lesser than I so how dare you try to tell me what to do?!" She yelled
"Stop fighting! You're both killing our mind" Sally said
"Okay, you choose Sally" Maeve said
"Should Keres kill him or not?" She asked
Sally looked at Keres. That was a tough decision to make. Not when Keres had clouds over her head.
"Remember who made you and can make you cease to exist again" Keres said
"You still want to see your beloved Ian right?" She threatened. Ian meant a lot to Sally. She wanted to see him again. The last time she ever saw him was when Legend had Emerald call her a junkie. Keres took over then and never let her out. She needed to say at least a goodbye to Ian.
"Maeve, he's bad. He killed your sister so why are you trying to over look it?" Sally asked
"And why are you trying to over look the fact that the only reason she wants to kill him is because she didn't get to kill Hazel herself?!" Maeve asked
"I'm with Keres, no matter what you say" Sally said and stepped away from Maeve
"Two minds against one. What's it going to be, Maeve?" Keres asked
Keres opened her eyes and sat up. She had won the battle against Maeve and nothing was going to stop her from enacting revenge on Diego. One would ask, why is she even acting this way? She's just a double personality not the real person. But Keres had endured through all the hardships Maeve faced. She faced everything evil that happened to her and swore to get revenge on those who made Maeve withdrawn from the world. Sally knew Keres was going to take control if anyone in the school tried to act up in front of her because she had experienced what Keres did in the previous school they attended and so she handled the Legend situation with care but Ian making her do drugs and turning the school against her ruined everything. Keres was out. The vengeful personality.
"Darn it" she said and got up to find Diego struggling to free himself
He was half way through it
"What the hell do you think you are doing?" She asked. He stopped abruptly and she heard a car pull up in front of the abandoned house. She rushed to the window and saw Ian and Nikolay stepping out of the car armed to the teeth.
"Darn these guys" she said and walked to another window. She pulled a cloth covering the sniper weapon she had stationed there and got ready to aim
"Come on" she said. Ian and Nikolay not knowing began to approach the building slowly. They looked like rookie Detectives in a thriller.
"Come closer" she said again and placed her index finger on the trigger. Just as she was about to fire Diego came from behind and injected her
"What the hell is that?!" Keres angrily charged at him
"Something that even I don't know about" Diego said and ran outside
"Dad!" Nikolay called
"Are you okay Sir?" Ian asked
"Yes, I'm fine" Diego said
Keres picked up the gun on the floor and dizzily stumbled outside
"Diego!" She called and pointed her gun at their direction
"Die!" She said and shot. It missed again
"Dad, get inside the car!" Nikolay said
Diego raced into the car and shut the door behind him
"I'm going to kill you!" She said and shot again but missed
"What the hell?" Ian asked
"What's wrong?" Nikolay asked
"Keres never misses" Ian answered
"Unless....." He said and turned towards Diego in the car
"I've injected her" he mouthed
"He's injected her!" Ian said happily
"What?" Nikolay asked not believing
"Go get the other box, I'll hold her" Ian said throwing his gun to the side just as Nikolay opened the car and got out the other box. He grabbed her while Ian injected her. She immediately went unconscious
"Yes!" They said happily. They were literally jumping around like children
"I'll carry her" Ian said and made to lift her up
"No way!" Nikolay said stopping him
"I'll do it myself"
"How're you feeling now?" Orlando asked Grace who had bandages all over her face. Keres had helped reconstruct her face in a destructive way and Grace was forever going to remember it. The Doctors were able to stop the bleeding but told her the only way forward was getting a plastic surgery. The damage Keres did was horrible.
"I'm fine now, the wound wasn't that deep" she said
"I must look really ugly now, right?" She asked
"No, you look even more beautiful" Orlando said and kissed her to her surprise
His phone rang disrupting the romantic moment. It was Ian
"Yes?" He asked picking up the call
"Get over here now. We've got her" he said
"Who?" Orlando asked
"Who else?"
"Keres of course" Nikolay spoke into the phone with laughter in his voice
"Where are you guys?" Orlando asked
"With the therapist" Ian answered
"I'm coming there now" Orlando said and ended the call
"I'll be right back" he said to Grace and made to leave
"I'm coming with you" Grace said and stepped out of the bed
"But Grace..." Orlando said
"I want to witness how Maeve takes over forever" she said
2.00pm. The Law Court. Hunter's trial
"Will the people of the court please rise?"
The Judge walked in and took his seat while the clerk handed him the case file
"The court is now in session. The people will be seated" the Judge said
Everyone was seated including the members of Black Cat. Julianne kept looking at Hunter hoping for a miracle to happen. Hoping for Keres to come in and confess so he'd be free but that was like asking the Devil to apologize to God for all the evil he had committed.
The Judge read through the case file given to him by the clerk and then looked at Hunter
"Will the defense please rise?" The Judge asked
Hunter stood up and stared hard at the Judge
"Mr. Evans, you stand accused of the crimes of arson, breaking and entering, assault and battery, torture and wanter murder" the Judge stated
"How do you plead?" He asked
"Guilty" Hunter said startling everyone including the persecution
"You plead guilty?" The Judge asked surprised
"Yes, your honor" he said smiling
"Then, will the persecution please rise?" The Judge asked still staring at Hunter t
"Your honor" the Lawyer said standing up
"Yes, you may proceed" the Judge said
"My client, the defendant pleads guilt to all crimes filed against him and would like for no questions to be asked and verdict delivered" the Lawyer said
"That is not the proper way of...." The Judge started
"We are aware but hope for the court to accept this" the lawyer said
"Persecution, do you agree to this?" The Judge asked
"Well, your honor I incline to think enough maybe gathered by putting together the chapters and sections of the Constitution on criminal law; chapter 42 section 443- Arson sub section 1- destroying an inhabited house or vessel with explosives, chapter 27 section 306- killing of a human being, chapter 25 section 253- assault" the persecutor said
"The persecution is asking for the maximum of life imprisonment without parole to the defendant" he added and sat down
"What do the men of the Jury say?" The Judge asked
"We find the accused guilty of the crimes charged against him" they responded to the excitement of the court
"Since the accused has plead guilty to all crimes filed against him the court will give it's verdict" the Judge said
"Criminal case 2023 filed against Hunter Evans, the verdict"
"The court sentences the accused to life imprisonment without parole" the Judge concluded
Julianne began crying even though she knew what the verdict was going to be. Silas held onto her hand as he too was drawn to tears. The members of Black Cat stood up just as Hunter was lead away from the Court room by the Police officers.
The news of the trial and verdict was all over the town. Everyone was talking about it. The internet went wild.
"For the first time in North Valley verdict has been delivered during the first hearing of a murder case in North Valley, Candida. The culprit identified as Hunter Evans has been sentenced to life imprisonment with out parole for the crimes charged against him"
