He couldn't understand his father-in-law. This was supposed to be about him, not what the villagers thought or what his in-laws wanted. He never submitted to peer or societal pressure. He only valued himself. His life was all about himself.

He was extremely selfish. It could be seen in the fact that the reason he was marrying the village head's daughter wasn't that he loved her. It was because she was beautiful, more so than the top-notch beauties he had seen in the northern frontier. If he married her, he would feel like an accomplished man. And a woman like her was in high demand. Maybe one of his higher would take a liking to her. Once he was done with her, it wouldn't be a bad idea to exchange her for a better position.

He thought all this while in the presence of his fiance, but she was so blinded by love that she didn't see the evil glints flashing in his eyes as he intensely stared at her with vile intentions.
