I disconnected the call before Emilia could get another word in, shutting the phone off and pushing myself up from the bed.

My eyes scanned the room, searching for a place where I could toss the damn thing or a high enough spot that Emma couldn't reach or even think to look.

But with my chaotic thoughts, I gave in to an impulse and crushed the device, flinging the pieced to a corner with a frustrated growl.

Damn it, I'm such an idiot! I know better than this. But the fear of losing her again fucked me up, driving my reckless actions. I refused to let the past repeat itself.

All I craved was more time with her, just the two of us in this secluded cabin, far from the rest of the world. Just a little more time. I would sacrifice anything just for this to last longer.
