After crossing the Deev River, they were to skirt it in a south-westerly direction until they met where it forked into the Idanke River.

Instead of crossing it, they had to skirt the Idanke River for two days to the southeast until they found its confluence with the Nadenka River.

Once they crossed that shortcut and rode for another day, they would be able to see a part of the Gerda Mountains, a clear sign that they were only four days away from the Darvazá Gate.

That would have been their journey back if the beasts had barred their way as they did on their journey there, but thanks to the scepter, they would be able to shorten the trip by four days, since they could avoid having to skirt the rivers and cross directly through the rainforest.

After crossing the Deev River, the group of six rode tirelessly until they came upon the confluence of the Nadenka and Idanke rivers as the sun disappeared over the horizon.
