Damon's P.O.V
"So I stopped getting close to people because I-I couldn't tell when they were being truthful and when they were faking it... I still can't tell." She reveals sadly, glancing up at me for a single moment before returning her gaze to our hands. "I-I know you're not like that Damon, but sometimes I-I get scared that... that this i-isn't what I think it is."
"Will," I start, trying to pull my hands from her to bring her closer to me but she stops me quickly. Shaking her head quickly as she brings my hands up to her lips to press a kiss to it, her eyes still not reaching mine as they fill with it.
"I-I know it is. I k-know that you feel what I feel for you." She fills in quickly, eyes shutting tight as she releases a shaky breath. "B-But I still get scared sometimes and I know I-I shouldn't, but I don't want what happened before to happen with you... I-I don't want to lose you, Damon."
She looks up to me this time, a lone tear escaping her eyes as she stares at me with unfiltered pain and fear. The look cutting into me, leaving me no choice but to pull her to me. I don't give her another option as she comes to me, sitting in my lap as I hold her tight to me. Reassuring her with my touch if nothing else, she clings to me, hiccuping gently as if revealing that much to me took a toll on her and I knew it did.
Will wasn't one to trust easy and shared even less, for her to reveal this much was a huge step for her. One I wouldn't let go unnoticed despite her stacked fears that went against us at every turn.
"There's nothing I can tell you to convince you that I'm not like that," I say against her, her fingers gripping my shirt like a lifeline. "The only thing I can do is show you that I'm not and I will, through everything I do I'll show you that I'm not them. Every day I'll show you that everything between us is genuine, I promise."
She doesn't reply, holding herself to me closer as her raged breathing steadies itself.
"I am never letting you go, never," I promise, pressing a kiss to her neck to solidify my words.
"I-I'm sorry." She apologizes making me grind my teeth together, her insecurities blocking her from seeing past this. "I'm sorry, I-I don't want to be like this... not with you"
"I know," I reply, rubbing her back gently as she remains glued to my frame. "I know and it'll just take some time, I told you I'd wait and I will. I'll always wait for you. So don't apologize, you give me what you can and that will always be more than enough for me."
Will pulls back to look into my eyes, her slightly red and wet with tears, it breaks my heart to see her so broken from the destructive actions of others throughout her life. I bury the anger to be here for her now, wiping the tears away before pressing a kiss to the cheek and holding her there. She doesn't move and smiles gratefully at me when I let my lips pull from her skin.
"You're my happiness." I remind her, hoping she heard the true meaning of those words.
Her smile only grows at this, her eyes crinkling with that familiar spark of joy that ignited even the darkest parts of me.
"You're my happiness too." She replies before leaning forward to capture my lips in a fierce kiss that only pulls the strings between us closer together.
We kiss slowly, soaking in one another's warmth along with the strengthening relationship we were building. Will's admission another step forward in the long journey we had to make, but we'd make it together.
"Your turn." She says after we pull apart, wiping at her eyes before offering me an encouraging smile.
Panic. Panic exploded through me like an unmanned bomb.
I pull Will from my lap, not wanting our proximity to alter her thoughts on this our cloud her mind in any way. She frowns at the act of separation, looking at me for an explanation so I keep our hands together to sedate her worries before they could sprout too high.
"Promise you'll listen to everything?" I ask seriously, needing her to at least listen to everything before she made her decision.
"This just took a serious turn, well more serious." Will jokes lightly, an appreciated attempt to ease the building tension in my shoulders. It was her turn to rub my hands supportively as she nodded, giving me that smile of her, the one that let me know she'd always be here for me. "I promise, I'll listen to everything."
My eyes remain glued to her, not wanting to look away and miss a single reaction of her. I'd need to try and gauge her every thought and reaction to mitigate the damage that may sprout from this because, in truth, there would more than likely be some level of damage.
"I've been trying to find the best way to tell you this, the best time or the right setting to make this easier for you to understand." I start releasing a small sigh. "But in the time we spent apart I realized that there may be a best time or best way, but I don't know when I'll find it so I'd rather just tell you now."
Will nods slowly, eyes narrowing as she tries to dissect my words. My heart gallops within my chest, the moment to rip the bandaid off right before me and I knew I had to do it before I could back away.
"I'm not really like you," I start making her frown suddenly. "N-No, not like that. I'm not like you in the sense that I'm not a human, thank Goddess." I say casting a blessing her way, Will continues to frown at me. "I'm a... werewolf,"
There I said it.
