The wrong size

«You're such a jerk, Ethan. Why did you buy me a large dress?» Vera inquired after sitting in his car. «I had to sew it so that I could fit. I can't walk in there with a large dress, or everyone will know I'm not as rich as I try to appear! You didn't need to do this!»

«Hey, calm down,» he murmured, surprised by the train of words. Her weird mood was still going on, apparently.

«Calm down? You bought me a large dress just so you could tell me I'm skinnier!»

«But I didn't do anything, Vera. I bought your usual size. If it's large, it's because you lost weight these last few weeks. I hope it's nothing severe. Just stress, right? Or do you feel anything amiss?»

«I'm fine,» she sighed, calming down finally. «I wasn't in the mood for eating. That's all. But I feel better now. I'll regain every gram eventually. As I always do.»
