Ethan noticed how something wasn't right with Vera, but he didn't inquire. She wouldn't tell him the truth if he asked. The only way was to wait for her to wish to say it by herself.

She was distracted, thinking about something with an indecipherable expression.

She had almost hit a couple of people on the way towards the centre, took the wrong road thrice and even ordered the wrong type of coffee and drunk it all the same without a frown. He had no clue what could make her act like a maiden in love, but her complexion was healthy overall.

«Hey, are you in love?» Ethan asked, worried.

Had she met someone dangerous after they had parted for sleep? Or was she having second thoughts about dismantling the smuggling organisation?

Did it have anything to do with the man she had called? That had been her only contact besides Ethan.

«L-love?» she stuttered, glaring at him. «With whom? You?»

«No,» he said, raising his brows.
