The confidential informant

Ethan guarded the items to the best of his capabilities. He ensured nothing was touched directly - the protocol for such cases, helpfully, didn't allow the police to move many items - and counted the things that got out of the warehouse. No visible curse was triggered, but he couldn't be sure until Vera was back.

He couldn't even call her because her phone was with him - he had found her near the place where she had been kidnapped - and the police refused to tell him anything about the mysterious informant. The most he could do was prevent disasters until she came back.

«As you see, we're careful,» Mlynar pointed out, appearing by Ethan's side like a ghost. «What you people think of us is unbased. Do you think we're incompetent just because of this one case? Your agent didn't do anything, though. It was the informant who told us everything and brought us proof. If it weren't for him, we would still be investigating and your agent a captive.»
