[Bonus chapter]Darkness (4)

«It seems to be an effect of the drug,» the doctor said. As he talked, Vera started to see shadows. At first, she grabbed Neven because she wasn't sure which part of the world she was seeing.

But then, when she realised those shadows were actually people, she relaxed. In all that darkness, a spot of light - probably the torch the doctor was using to check her eyes - attracted her attention.

«It's already better, isn't it? I'm quite surprised you didn't fall unconscious, actually.»

«Maybe luck,» she sighed. «Or maybe that man didn't want me unconscious.»

She was rather sure it was the latter option. It seemed like Joe knew well enough what he was doing, how long to wait so that she lost any strength to fight but not her consciousness.

«The scratch on your neck is also clean. We have already disinfected it. Do not touch it, though. Since you can't see, it might feel worse than it actually is.»

«Thank you, doctor,» she said.
