Sharing guilt (2)

«It's my fault,» Neven confessed. «It wasn't my intention to make things so painful for you, but this wouldn't be happening if I didn't meddle in.»

He had to tell Vera everything while she was there, listening. Soon, she would be free to go.

At his confession, Vera hadn't even reacted. She drowned in his warmth and found some comfort in that embrace. Even if it was probably all a game, it was all she could get at the moment.

«I couldn't bear the thought that my feelings hurt you, so I figured that I could look for a solution if I had the cause in my hands. I was going to analyse the amulet and search for a way to lift the curse. And, if there was none, to erase any previous order with a new one. Even if it wouldn't be a real solution, it would make it easier for you,» he said. «But I would have never imagined they would call for you, cut your hair, and tell you to deliver the amulet to me directly.»
