The village where they stopped was eerie. People wouldn't walk around too much, reminding Vera of the place where she had dealt with vampires.

As soon as sunset was over, the villagers would retreat into their homes, not coming out until morning no matter the need. It seemed that everyone knew that something was going on, but was it a conscious belief or just the human instinct for danger?

Either way, Vera was there to jump into danger's arms.

«Do I come with you?» Neven made an attempt at convincing her not to go alone, but it was doomed to fail. He would be a hassle to her, and he would make the summoners wary. There was no place for him on the field. He had no training for the cases, though.

Vera didn't either, but she had experience. Maybe it was time to reserve some time for it, if he wanted to follow her around more often - without being a nuisance, possibly.
