Old myths (1)

«Do you fear death so much?» Vera sighed, following after her through the small alleys of the village. No one even dared to look at them. It was clear that they were in the right place.

«It's not like that, but eternity is simply too irresistible,» the other witch replied. «Can you imagine what you could have? Everything! You would have the time to get whatever you want. And the patience.»

«Patience doesn't come with deathlessness. Not dying is not enough to wait for something,» Vera pointed out. «And your wishes might seem boundless, but eternity is even worse. You will finish your to-do list sooner or later. But you won't be able to get your soul back in return.»

«They won't take our souls,» the witch chuckled. «That's ridiculous! Just part of it, to feed on it and survive in our world.»

«Who is they?»

«I can't tell you,» the woman said, showing the way into an old church.

Vera sighed. A church again. It was becoming predictable.
