Keeping Up With The Lie

Eleanor couldn't take her gaze away from his hand on her arm and toward his face.

He clenched his jaw and enlarged his eyes to warn her; it was as if he was challenging her to repeat what she had said. Later, he closed his eyes and took calm, deep breaths one at a time.

She wasn't exactly scared. She didn't even have time to process what to feel about what was happening.

If she thought she didn't have a reason to run out of the place, that was a better reason to do so. She got convinced that the house was full of psychopaths. That was the mantra she kept repeating to herself.

"Okay, let her go. You are hurting her," the other man, the exact one who wanted to crash her bones earlier, told him.

"Let's make this quick so you'd leave here," he again declared, taking his brother's hand off her. He then later glanced over with an intense look at the man behind him.

"Do you think I'm enjoying my stay here? I would've said something if I knew where they took your mother!" She screamed in their faces, trying to catch her breath afterward.

She was not precisely what you'd call submissive. As long she knew how right she was, there was no way she would let anyone make her crawl on her knees.

"We know where you live. As we speak, we have our men there, waiting for our order. Be a good girl and tell us what you know or else..." that agitated her the more. However, she was not in the position to threaten them as she got threatened.

At that minute, all she could think of was Jamie and her little sister, Scarlet who were probably home alone.

"You wouldn't dare," She whispered, cutting him off. That whisper almost sounded like a plea. Eleanor became frightened that she couldn't even look into their eyes.

"I meant every word I said, so the choice is yours. Should I get the phone, or you'll talk?" He threatened her for the last time, digging into his pocket for something she thought could be his phone.

"Fine, I will talk. My boss asked us, I mean the girl I danced with and I, to distract you. He asked us to do so by a particular leader's order. I couldn't hear his name.

All I know was the leader wanted revenge on what you did to his father. Besides, the other girl I danced with knew more than I did.

She's closer to the boss than I am," she carefully lied, not exactly since ninety percent of what Eleanor had told them was the truth- she thought spicing it up a bit would be enough.

They seemed to have believed her because they all cursed under their breath, and the two brothers hit the table and the wall.

"That son of a...I will kill him before he hurts my mother. Simon, take her to the room," the calm brother ordered.

"Wait a minute, you told me to tell you, and you'll make me go. What room are you referring to?" She enquired as she tried to run out.

If this room was a welcoming one, she was sure the next one would be too much for her to handle.

"No, not so fast. We will set you free once our mother is also," he spoke while pushing his hands further into his pocket. Simon, as the calm brother had addressed him, looked over at her and then back to his brother.

"Those people could care less about me. They don't even know I exist. What makes you think they'll negotiate your mother's life for mine?

Go and ask the other lady. Lolly could know more than I do," She understood the game she started was soon going to end, as Eleanor knew well enough Lolly had as little knowledge as herself about the whole thing, and by little, she meant nothing.

She just felt it would be nice having Lolly in there with her.

And also to buy time to protect those back home. She would let them kill her first before they got to them.

Even after some of the men hurriedly left, Alan looked adamant about not retiring from the room. His hands got buried in his pockets as he leaned against the wall. His presence irritated and excited her at the same time.

She eyed him, and before Eleanor could react, she was blindfolded and asked to shut up.

 ***

She didn't know how much time she had spent sleeping until she got shaken to wake up.

The room they brought her to was nice enough for her to wish not to go back home. She looked around, scanning the room.

The room was painted white, and there was a desk across from where she stood. The bed she had just woken up from was a big one, and the room smelled as though they were in a vineyard- floral, citrus, and earthly.

It smelled just like the man standing a few inches away from her: the calm brother who always came with his brothers aside from the days she got brought into the torture room. He was not there in the torture room until the last day in there.

"You lied to us! How dare you lie to us!" The so-not patient brother screamed and flicked his fingers to make her fully awake.

The two men saw how she ogled at one of them, almost as though she wanted to strip him naked.

"Have I been sleeping for a long time?" That was all she could think about as she stretched, her bones cracking.

Hmmm, such a pleasant but unpleasant sensation. Eleanor did it to hide her embarrassment at how she stared at him when she realized they were watching. His grin was proof as well.

Simon must have been irritated by her action because she got pinned to the wall the second she put her arms down, which surprised her. After all, she knew she was standing near the bed. It all happened so quickly.

"How dare you deceive us!" He kept repeating himself. One thing she was sure of was that they were repeating themselves far too frequently.

That, or she had a habit of not responding to questions the first time they got asked.

She moved back over to the bed, giving herself more time to consider.

'Okay, let me think fast. Who else would be interested in kidnapping the mother of these types of men? Unless he is of the same status.

These young men look dangerous. Well, excluding the other brother. Shut up, let me think well!' She continued to have a conversation in her head.

'And why else do you think he would want to kidnap their mother? Maybe for revenge. No one would want revenge unless you've done something bad to them as well. So yeah, I'm sticking to my lie!'

"I told you the truth. That was what I heard. Whoever the man is, he was telling you lies. They were..."

"Maybe I should personally pay your sister a visit," his threat held her rooted to the ground as she quickly spun to face them.

At this moment, Eleanor had failed to understand these young men. They were boiling with anger because their mother had gone missing.

The only clue they had was the two dancers who danced throughout the night.

One gave them a more convincing story that she was innocent and had nothing to do with it while Eleanor, on the other hand, struggled to finish the story she was trying to tell, to save herself and the people she had home.

These men wanted to torture her more. However, they couldn't because one of the brothers, who happened to be the second oldest and the Beta, got mated to her.

"Fine, there is more," she spoke before she could control herself, "They have another basement outside their place. They were taking your mother to a new place."

'Oh boy, wish me luck.' She swore inwardly.

A wolf howled behind the window at the same time. She observed as the two men turned to see the source of the disturbance before looking at each other.

"You better be telling us the truth," Simon cautioned as he glanced behind him. His brother was still in the room also, not even uttering a word.

He had a different expression on his face with his lips curved downwards.

"I don't like her," he stated as he walked passed his brother, who happened to look anything but angry.
