"why are you helping me?" Her face entirely serious as she questioned. She didn't trust any of them as of now. She wasn't even sure about Karl.
"I am making up for when I took you to the forbidden forest" He answered not breaking the eye contact.
"why? Because I am some sort of a freaking princess now" None of this princess thing meant anything for her.
"I am not doing any of this because of you. I am doing it for your mother" And now it was her turn to be surprised.
"you met my mother?" At least she wasn't imagining things today the thought occurred in Audra's mind.
"No, I didn't meet her today or recently." Disappointment fluttered in Audra's heart. "But I knew her before she was sent away" he let down the tray between them sitting beside her by the wall.
"You knew her?" Her eyebrows scrunched in confusion.
"I was around six when she left "Ian answered her confusion.
"And you remember it all?" where they lived not many people were aware of her mother it was nice to hear about her from someone who knew her.
"Bits of it. I used to look up to her. My…" Audra noticed his hesitation. "My father wasn't the best of people. I was never able to fulfill his expectations. He. He used to scold me a lot."
"Why?" for as much as she had known all four of them she thought Ian had the best skills of them.
He shrugged in response and Audra knew not to push. "But your mother was always so nice to me. She used to save me from my dad and help me she even used to scold my dad if he ever scolded me. And my father only used to listen to her. The high prince Carter was nothing when it came to your mother. She had a way of convincing everyone around her according to her rules and ways. I had a lot of fun with her. I used to look up to her and then she was gone." She could see the respect in his eyes.
"If you were so close to my mother why didn't you know my name?" she had found it peculiar when she had arrived.
"No one knew except my father Lucio's father our grandfather and … your father" he looked at her to see her reaction but she had none. "just these few people."
"That is how Lucio's father knew who I was because he knew my name" She remembered her encounter when she was taking the globe. Ian nodded in approval. "what would he get by having hold of me?"
"Lucio's father, Prince Sebastian. Leads the rebels. He has disagreements with grandfather. He doesn't believe that we should stay at peace with the ice kingdom he wants war and therefore he came to attack the palace to capture you. He must have heard your name and his suspicions answered." He replied joining the puzzle pieces in her head.
"But what would he get if he captures me?" confusion swarmed around her.
"You still don't get it do you?" He turned a little completely facing her this time.
"What?" Audra's eyebrows quirked up challenging him to speak up.
"I hate to admit this but you are possibly the most powerful person from all three kingdoms" He spoke as if he resented every word he had to occur.
" I have no powers" she reminded him.
"Yet. But once you unleash your powers you should be unbeatable. So I am going to make the most of the chance I gave to fight with you" and he was back to being the mean person he was.
"How do I unleash my powers?" she ignored the second part.
He raised his palm and a sword appeared hovering right above his hand covered in black and red swirls. "We all have our special weapons. Most of us have swords and they carry our powers and strengths. The weapon helps us to contain our unleased energy and control it. Once ewe get the weapon with the general powers of each kingdom everyone also gets one special power" The blade vanished again and he retracted his hand.
"What are your powers?" Curiosity gnawed at Audra.
"Teleportation." He spoke nonchalantly as if it was obvious.
"But Marcello can do that too"
"That is because he is from the earth kingdom the wind is the factor allowing them to teleport likewise the ice kingdom uses water to teleport I got it as the gift" hearing all this Audra realized she really had no idea about this place.
"And what powers do the rest of them have?" She felt like sue should know more about the people she was living with to avoid getting into more disasters.
"Marcello can bend air make it move the way it wants. Karl has telekinesis." He seemed to like his power the most.
"What about Lucio?" she couldn't help but notice he didn't mention him.
"He…. It's hard to say. We don't really know. He never actually showed it to us. We have known he is very good at spells but that's skills. Like Marcello is good at strategies or Karl is good at archery his weapon is his bow and also I must say manipulating people" Ian rolled his eyes talking about his brother as if he remembered some memory and couldn't help saying that about Karl.
"You are just jealous your brother can handle tense situations among people by just talking to them" Audra scoffed remembering how the first time she had met them and Karl had cheered them all up before they ate each other and how Karl knew to convince Lucio whenever they needed some spells.
"Why would I be jealous I can easily beat him in everything." He boasted about himself.
"really and what are your set of skills?" she challenged him her eyebrows raised high up.
"sword fight. I am easily unbeatable"
"Show off. You are getting off track we were talking about Lucio" She ignored his eye roll.
"What I am saying is. Lucio never really exposed his true powers. We think he may not have it then again he does have his weapon. The truth is Lucio always stays away from us unless it's for Karl who drags him along like I said Karl can easily convince people and that's the only time Lucio stays with us and he doesn't even say much except for a few words" Audra had noticed all that Ian was explaining to her.
"So he doesn't have powers?" Audra questioned still unable to understand.
"I doubt that. That's what everyone thinks. Even grandfather I guess. That's why he brought Lucio here that's my theory. Because even though he was a rebel's son, he had no powers that had made Lucio harmless and easy for grandfather to control Prince Sebastian though it had never really stopped uncle from stirring problems he usually stayed away from the palace…..." He was trying to join the pieces himself as he narrated his thoughts to Audra.
"He did come this time though and Lucio is with his father now harmless or not harmless" Audra felt like adding this remembering the father and son attacking her.
"I think Lucio does have power and he keeps it hidden or maybe he has never had the chance to use it" One thing was for sure Ian had never trusted Lucio.
"Or maybe he did use it but no one ever noticed" She said more to herself than him.
Possibly" Ian agreed. A scream escaped her lips as a stinging sensation erupted in her arms. She looked to the side to see Ian placing the ointment over her arm.
"What are you doing" she tried to pull away her arm as numbing began to spread over it but Ian pulled it back.
"I answered your questions now I am putting on the ointments." She grumbled in response but didn't protest this time "You shouldn't have run away from us if you didn't want this. Why did you though?"
"I thought I saw my mother" she wasn't sure if she should tell him but she did. "but then Lucio caught me"
"Must be one of his tricks" Audra didn't respond to him, her mind lost in deep thoughts her eyes set on top of Ian's head but she was staring in the oblivion really.
"Quit staring ask what's in your empty head I don't think I can always be this cooperative" he could feel his stare boring holes on top of his head.
"How do you release your powers?" she genuinely wanted to know that. Ian's working hand stopped and he looked up at her.
"You need to have your birthstones for that" his raised his hand again and the sword reappearing.
"Birthstones?" she was sure they weren't the stones associated with the months.
"Like this one here" he pointed at the red ruby shining in the middle of his sword.
