A Haughty Competitor

"Your Majesty," Meira purred, her silky voice carrying throughout the entire banquet hall. "Thank you for coming to celebrate my birthday."

As she descended from the base of the stairs, she gave a light curtsy before immediately walking to Korbin's side.

He didn't comment on how she didn't wait for his signal to be released from the curtsy. Instead, Korbin met her eyes with a certain gentleness, but Daphne could see through its forced nature. This gaze was nothing like the one that he occasionally let slip out. This was one that had been carefully crafted over time.

"It's been a long time that I've seen you, Meira. Last time I saw you, you were only this tall, hardly a little girl." Korbin gestured to his chest.

"Yes, Your Highness." In heels, Meira now reached up to his neck. "I've tried growing to match Your Highness's height better."

"Oh?" Korbin mused. "We do look to be a good pair standing beside one another, don't we?"
