When Zhang Yan saw this, he realized he had a chance to attack the queen while it was distracted, so he jumped toward it, but it was in vain.
When it obtained this chance, it released another hypnotic hum, which temporarily dazed Zhang Yan. Taking advantage of this opportunity, the queen knocked him flying, severely injuring Zhang Yan.
Mei Lin sprang into action fast, taking several smaller cicadas with her great mastery over her twin draggers. When the queen became aware of the threat, she appeared in front of her and released a massive poison breath that covered a large area.
Liu Feng was able to regain his balance and resume his attack after the queen's attention was diverted. He felt horrible for his other partner, but he didn't have time to think about it.
He quickly approached the queen cicada using his [Beast God's Movement Art] and began utilizing his [Beast God's Whip Art] to its true capacity. He felt he was steadily getting better at using the movements.
The cicada queen dodged many strikes before attacking Liu Feng with its poisonous breath. When he noticed this, he moved several steps back utilizing his movement method, but his whip was caught on it.
The leather whip was not of high quality, to begin with, but after coming into touch with the poison breath, it began to corrode.
As Liu Feng regained some distance between them, he noticed a pair of arrows being fired at the queen from somewhere.
He realized it had to be Mei Lin. When he noticed the queen was distracted, he quickly dropped his whip and switched to claws, charging at her with all his might.
Circulating his cultivation technique [The Eight Trigram Dao Convergence Scripture] at full force and exerting his Qi Condensation Stage 2, he combined his passive ability of [Beast God's Whip Art] and the movement technique [Beast God's Movement Art] to appear in front of the cicada, effectively blinding it for a moment.
Liu Feng jumped at it like a ferocious predator, concentrating a tremendous amount of Qi beneath his feet, and unleashed a pair of full-powered [Beast God's Claw Art]. The blue glimmering qi quickly enveloped his claws and three streams of sharp water qi rushed towards it.
The queen let out a blood-curdling cry as his slash tore through its exoskeleton and severely damaged it.
The queen's claw assault was no match for Liu Feng's, and she collapsed to the ground, defeated.
Liu Feng exhaled a sigh of relief as the battle against the emerald cicada queen was finally over.
The swarm of cicadas retreated after the emerald cicada queen was defeated, leaving the trio and the other people to gather their breath and tend to their wounds.
The other group of individuals began to rejoice. Despite the risk, they all felt a sense of pride and success at having overcome such a great opponent together.
Liu Feng went up to the others. Zhang Yan was hurt by the severe impact, but Mei Lin was fine, much to his amazement. This surprised Liu Feng, but he resisted the temptation to question her.
'I suppose everything is possible in a fantasy world, but I'll have to check with her later.' He let out a sigh.
Liu Feng wasted no time in approaching the fallen body of the emerald cicada queen.
'System collected the Dao Fragments,' he muttered, placing both of his hands on the body of the fallen cicada queen.
[Ding! Several Dao Fragments were detected. Do you wish to collect them?]
Liu Feng began going through his notifications after selecting yes.
[Collected 14 Lesser Garde Dao Fragments and several Inferior Grade Dao Fragments.]
[Collected Inferior Grade Dao Fragments will be converted to Dao Points.]
After the process was completed Liu Feng checked his status again and directly went to look for his collections and collected Dao points.
[Dao Points: 1655]
[Collection(s):
> {Unnamed Wood Dao} (Origin: Dao of the Five Elements) (Lesser Grade) x10,
> {Unnamed Poison Dao} (Origin: Dao of the Five Elements) (Lesser Grade) x9,
> {Unnamed Insect Dao} (Origin: The Ancient Jade Cicada) (Lesser Grade) x9]
After slaying the cicada queen, he obtained a total of 14 Dao Fragments of two different varieties.
'Let's see what we've got here, some new poison element Dao fragments and what this 'Unnamed Insect Dao' originating from the Ancient Cicada.'
'Well, well, well, looks like my plans for the Beast God series have gone up in smoke. Do I have to start a new Insect God series now, or should I just stick with the Beast God series... oh well, no one but my guilty conscience will know.'
Liu Feng laughed, apparently amused by his own joke. He couldn't help but shake his head in amazement at the unexpected turn of events.
He chuckled again, unable to keep his sense of humor in check. Soon after, he clicked on the new Dao fragment to view its details.
{Unnamed Insect Dao} (Origin: The Ancient Jade Cicada) (Lesser Fragment)
[ Obtained from the remains of the Emerald Cicada Queen who is said to be a descendent of the Ancient Jade Cicada from the Jade Forest. Despite the bloodline being incredibly thin, the creature still carries a trace of the ancient cicada's bloodline. The Ancient Cicada was said to have lived for centuries, absorbing the essence of the sun and moon, and singing its heavenly song to bring peace and clarity to the minds of all those who heard it. It is said that the Ancient Jade Cicada was a messenger of the gods, bringing enlightenment and guidance to all those who sought it. With its powers to heal and clear the mind, it has become a symbol of spiritual purity, mental clarity, and inner peace. It is said that those who possess its essence will experience an enlightenment that transcends the boundary of space and time and will be granted the power to heal the minds of others and bring them peace.]
Liu Feng was conflicted after reading the description of his newly obtained Dao fragments. He only had 9 fragments of this insect Dao from the queen cicada, but he required at least 10 to synthesize a new medium.
'It seems to be quite good from the description, and hopefully, I will receive some form of healing or mind cultivation skills. I could look for other cicada queens as well, but that seems to take too much time. Although the remaining cicadas have since fled, I have never obtained any insect Dao from the fodder ones before, and it is unlikely that I would now.'
'Should I incorporate the newly acquired Dao fragments into my existing cultivation technique? My current technique includes a qi gathering technique and a few fighting techniques, but I lack a support type technique and this could potentially be a suitable replacement. Or, should I go with a new technique combining the poison Dao fragments and this healing type Dao fragment?'
'Using two opposing powers to create something works well in fiction, but I am uncertain of the outcome in reality. If my previous experiment with the [Beast God's Whip Art] technique had not failed, I would have attempted to use both the poison Dao fragments and the healing type Dao fragments.'
'Last time due to the elemental incompatibility so many of my Dao Points got wasted but I don't think there will be any issue now with my cultivation technique. I mean it's the eight trigrams after all. According to my knowledge from reading countless 'holy scriptures', the eight trigrams should be somewhat impressive and can keep everything in balance.'
'but again more technique means less time to practice each…huuuh….powering up is the most important thing I'll use it in my cultivation technique and leave the wood and poison element for now.'
Thus he decided to incorporate the newly acquired Dao fragments with this existing cultivation technique.
'System, use all of the lesser grade Dao fragments of {Unnamed Insect Dao} (Origin: The Ancient Jade Cicada) and infuse them into my [The Eight Trigram Dao Convergence Scripture].'
[Ding. Consuming 90 Dao Points to incorporate {Unnamed Insect Dao} into the cultivation technique 'The Eight Trigram Dao Convergence Scripture'.]
[Ding. Task Completed Successfully.]
He immediately clicked on the illusory scroll that appeared within his system panel, causing a flood of information to enter his consciousness.
[Cultivation Technique Modified]
[The Eight Trigram Dao Convergence Scripture]

[Category: Cultivation Technique]
[Sub Category: Qi Cultivation Technique]
[Technique Grade: Grade 1]
[Limit: Qi Condensation Stage 12]
[Active Ability: Qi Gathering, Enhanced Healing]
[Passive Ability: Perfect Concealment, Clear Mind]
[Description: This is a cultivation technique based on the Dao of the Eight Trigrams. Practitioners of this cultivation technique can imitate the natural Dao of the Eight Trigrams and gather Qi in their dantian. As the Eight Trigrams Dao resonates with nature, this provides the user of this technique to have a perfect Qi Concealment. As long as the user does not show, no one will be able to see through the user's cultivation. Due to incorporating foreign Dao fragments it received the passive ability of Clear Mind that makes the host immune to any mental attack-related skills to a certain degree and focusing on this technique can enhance the host's natural healing ability.]
