"Seriously?" Elma stopped her walk to look him in the eye. "Tell me you're joking about being ignorant right now."

"Am I?" Ishaq folded his massive arms across his chest and peered her in a manner that left her further stunned and undecided over his alleged oblivion.

"Listen," Elma had to paint her tone to reveal how serious she was about what she wanted to say. "We both know I behaved like a total jerk yesterday. I mean, I see no reason to hide it or try to defend myself. I was very mean to you yesterday. I mean, I was— you found me in a badly messed up state in my office and offered concern and like… Uhm, the least I should have done then was acknowledge the kindness in your gesture. Like you even offered to walk me home. I honestly wasn't in a clear mood back then. So, forgive me for dismissing you like that?"
