As I wake up to the annoying alarm clock inside my head, I slowly wake up from day sleep and get ready for the night life.
I used to be a day dweller, but ever since that one night, I prefer to be a night owl. But let me tell you something very important first. My history with guys.
I'm not one to be pushed around or told what I can and cannot do. I'm an independent woman who has some tricks up her sleeve.
Literally.
My family comes from a long line of witches and warlocks from before the Salem Witch Trials. But that's not all I am.
I'm something much more dangerous. Something that has the best, or at times, worst of both worlds.
Remember how I told you I don't like to be bossed around? Well, one fateful night, just last month, I dated my last human man. He was cool at first, but that's not what drew me to him.
At first, he was sweet, which I saw in his aura. But when he found out what I was, he freaked out and ran away like a little girl.
Seriously. Arms flailing around and everything.
I sat all alone in self pity because how can I ever find a man who loves me for me. Not for what I was born as.
Yes, I'm a witch, but I don't use my powers at all. At least not for the dark stuff.
As I was alone with my thoughts, a strange man came to sit with my in the corner booth that I was sulking in.
He just looked at me with great intensity.
Now, this usually doesn't happen, but I knew he wasn't a warlock. And I knew he wasn't human either.
As I studied him with the same focus, I saw a glimmer in his eyes.
It was probably just the light flickering.
But that didn't explain the glow around his pupils.
His bright yellow eyes had a tint of gold to them just around the edges of his iris.
In the corner of my eyes, I saw a group of bikers, obviously human, coming towards us. He noticed them too. And just as soon as his eyes glanced at them, he growled under his breath.
His hands balled up into fists.
He had the expression of an animal about to attack a threat.
And with the color of all of their auras, they were indeed bad news.
Bright red filled my eyes, as their auras turned into a fire like light show. Fear of what I may have to do was scarier than them.
Or losing another potential man. Whatever he is.
My hands started to shake rapidly, my mind thinking of a spell to distract them away from us. But that is not what happened at all.
For the first time in my 28 year old life, I was scared of another man.
Usually, I can think well under pressure, but there were just too many of them. I messed up my first spell. A shock wave with so much pressure and power behind it shot out of my hands as I freaked out, forgetting not to hurt them.
But I did.
The next events played out in slow motion.
My heart pounded in my head.
My palms were still heavy with the spell I just used.
And none of them were awake. They looked like they had some broken bones as well. Well, nothing a little magic can't fix.
But, yet again, that's not the way this night played out.
"I'm sorry", I said to the mystery man, but all I got in response was moaning.
Maybe he was in pain too. I looked back and was horrified by what I saw.
It happened so fast, I'm not even sure how it happened.
He had his back towards me. And by his stance, he was looking at the night sky. Maybe he was admiring the stars. And the full moon that was being blocked by the clouds was emerging, showing it's full beauty.
That's when I figured it out. I started to come for a better look. To see if my instincts were correct.
"Are you okay", I asked.
A low groan of pain escaped him. His aura seemed off, like it was changing.
And changing it was. His fingernails grew longer and sharper, like claws.
His ears grew pointed. And as he dropped to the floor, his body became more muscled, ripping his shirt right down the middle.
As I just stood there in horror, I did the stupidest thing I could have done. And that is to take another step closer to him. His breathing seemed forced. In the cold weather, I could see his breath and the heat radiating off of him.
He was almost transformed.
With another painful breath, he jumped with great force onto the table, and roared as he turned around and there I saw it.
I was right.
I now knew what he was.
Clear as the full moon right behind his massive form he was standing in front of.
He let out a long howl, which made my blood run cold.
But not out of fear. But with interest and wonder.
And wanting.
I wanted to be near him even more than ever. I took another step forward, and he noticed the movement.
He crouched down, his claws digging into the table. His back was arched upwards, getting ready for an attack.
But I wasn't scared anymore.
In fact, I was comfortable.
He wasn't human. He was a supernatural like me.
I may have to wait until morning to talk to him. And I will indeed take that chance.
Before I could take another step closer, he pounced off of the table, pinning me down to the cool, tile floor.
His claws weren't digging into my skin, but I could feel the sharpness of them as they touched my bare shoulders.
The tank top I wore was slightly ripped through though.
Well, that's okay. I'll just buy another one.
Or fix it.
As I looked into his eyes, I didn't use any magic at all. Just my human traits.
I tried to free my hand from underneath his huge hands. And here's the weird thing. He let me.
I slowly moved my hand up to his face, and the thought of it made him jolt back and growl, but as soon as I touched his left cheek bone, his eyes went wide and then with a stroke from my hand, they closed very slowly.
As they shut, a low growl of understanding passed from him to me.I understood it perfectly without any words spoken.
He knew I wasn't a threat.
But when my heart rate went up a little, his eyes shot open.
One of the bikers came to and was running for us.
He yelled as he was about to grab something from his leather vest pocket.
And for the first time in a long time, I felt like I was completely helpless.
As if he could sense my fear, and not of him, he lay on top of me, protecting me from the man trying to kill me.
As the man was in range, my protector pounced off of me and I felt a great my right shoulder blade burn.
Laying there in pain, I grabbed my shoulder in agony. Blood flooded out of the wounds he just made.
But I was in too much pain to be mad at him. He was just trying to get to the other man that was trying to hurt and kill me.
I could hear the fight taking place, but I didn't dare to look. I shut my eyes as tight as I could. A moment of ringing in my ears and two bright yellow eyes floated above me. I knew it was him.
My protector.
He was still in his supernatural form, but there was something human about his movements. He picked me up with his strong arms, warm with fur, and he huffed, as if to chuckle as I played with his chest fur.
I couldn't help but giggle myself.
As he walked outside, he laid me down on the sidewalk bench and licked my wounds. I would have thought that it would be gross, but the pain was numbed right away, so I welcomed the licking.
As the night was darkened by the clouds passing over the moon, I said a thank you to him, and I almost wet myself because he answered in English.
"Your welcome. And I'm so very sorry."
Jumping around to face him, I was stunned by what I saw. He was in human form again. But with his shirt being ripped off by him turning, I was pleased by what I saw.
Not only was his shirt ripped. But so was he.
"What do you mean that you are sorry? You saved my life. I couldn't take on that group of bikers, even though they were human."
"How do you know that?"
"Promise not to freak out?"
"How on earth would I be the one to freak out. I'm a beast for crying out loud. Just tell me how you did that. I promise, I won't freak out."
"Okay, but the last guy who I had told ran out on our date. Are you sure you can handle it?'
He tilted his head as if to say, 'well duh'.
My eyes told him to hold that thought.
His rolled.
With his secret out there, it's time I told another guy what I am.
A deep breath was held, and let out.
"I'm a witch."
Silence filled the air, and he nodded.
Relief flooded through me. He didn't say anything, just looked into the air.
He leaned in as if he was going to tell me something very top secret.
"And I'm a werewolf."
Now it was my turn to roll my eyes.
"I never would have guessed."
