FOURTY-NINE

I could hear my heartbeat soundly at the mention of that short sentence, 'Yes, it's him.'

There is only one person Amelia would give an intense fearful reaction apart from me.

'Typhon,' I thought of his name.

I clenched my other hand in anger as I thought, 'Why? Why is he coming now?'

'Is it because we are vulnerable without many warriors?' That was the only reason that I could think.

'What of the Lycan Kingdom? Did he attack?' I added to my thoughts.

'No, if he attacked, Conrad would be the first person to know,' I answered my thoughts, remembering the barrier surrounding the kingdom.

Different thoughts and scenarios ran into my head.

I closed my eyes, took a deep breath, and opened them.

'Calm down, Carmen,' I thought, staring at the groups of guards and maids.

''What is the situation?'' I asked the guard who shouted.

The guard glanced at Ryder and saw that his master had no problem talking with me and spoke, ''Rogues roughly 1500, Vampires roughly 100, Strays about 1500.''

'That's a lot of creatures,' I thought, ruffling my hair.

Conrad released my hand and asked with furrowed brows, ''No witches?''

'True, I expected there would be witches, and that will make the battle much harder since there are only two witches with us,' I nodded, agreeing with his question

''I didn't see any witch,'' The guard replied.

''What of Typhon? Did you see him?'' I asked the most crucial part.

''No, miss. Only the creatures.'' He denied.

'Then what I felt was an illusion?' I thought as I glanced at Conrad, and he did the same.

It seems he exactly thought what I was thinking.

''Impossible, he should be there,'' I said aloud.

The guard looked at me without saying anything.

I looked at Ryder and asked, ''You felt that, right?''

Ryder nodded and sighed, ruffling his hair.

''What do we do? How are we supposed to help?'' Conrad asked.

I nodded, agreeing with him.

Ryder looked at us, then turned to the witches, He saw rose nodding, but Amelia seemed to be the problem with behavior.

Rose saw the attention on the trembling Amelia behind her back and answered our unsaid question. ''She would help.''

''Are you sure?'' I asked, eyeing Amelia.

''She might not look it, but she is the witch with the most magic in our coven after the high priest,'' Rose said.

''She won't let you down,'' Rose added.

I looked at her and saw she was not joking before I agreed with a nod.

''Don't die,'' I said, turning to Ryder.

''List where they are coming from,'' Ryder said immediately to the guard, who shouted.

''East, North, South, West, they are coming from all directions, Sir,'' He mentioned.

Ryder nodded before he started instructing.

''Assemble all the warriors, including the Lycans and werewolves.'' He looked at Conrad and me seeing that we had no issues with him using our warriors.

He continued.

''Take the vampire warriors, help the vulnerable ones in the territory and bring all of them into this castle.''

''Block all the entrances and the gates in the territory,''

''Escort the werewolf and the lycan warriors to tighten the security since there will be people here. Anything can happen with Typhon.''

''Kill all of the trespassers in my territory,''

''Do it now,'' Ryder said.

At his command, the guards and the maids disappeared in a blink of an eye. And we were the only ones left in the hall.

''We should go to the battlefield,'' I said, preparing to leave.

Conrad held my hand immediately as I said that.

I looked at him seriously, and he did the same.

None of us wanted to back down.

When Ryder saw that we were not going anywhere, he told Rose and Amelia to follow him.

Once the doors closed, I spoke, ''I hope you are not stopping me, Conrad.''

He didn't answer and just stared at me.

''You should know that he will not stop till he gets me, your majesty,'' I said, changing the way I called him to show him I was not joking.

For Typhon to have that kind of presence, many innocent people in the vampire's territory will die because he wants me.

Conrad's brows twitched at the change of my address of him.

He stared at me for a while before he sighed, ''I know you feel a sense of responsibility for the supernatural world.''

He paused before continuing, ''But please don't forget you have me, your mate, and your family waiting for you to come back alive.''

''I have not marked you, kissed you, crown you as my queen, and had a child with you,'' I felt blood rushing up to my cheeks at his last sentence as my heart fluttered.

He removed his hand from mine and held my waist before biting the crook of my neck.

He did it so fast that I could not escape quickly.

I gasped in surprise as I struggled to come out from his embrace.

''T-This i-is not t-the right time.'' I stuttered with a blood-red blushing face.

I could feel his teeth nibbling and threatening to extend to mark me instantly.

''C-Conrad,'' I tried to talk sense to my mate.

''Promise me, Carmen,'' He stopped nibbling and said in a weak voice, cutting me off.

I stopped struggling at the tone of his voice.

''Promise me that you won't die and be with me.'' He repeated.

''Promise me you won't return injured and almost dead like last time,'' He repeated

''I will tell you everything about me, including why I hate werewolves, but for you to hear them, please come back alive.'' He begged.

I didn't answer immediately and kept quiet in Conrad's embrace.

My hands that were by my side slowly moved up and embraced the muscular body tightly.

''I will, Conrad,'' I said, patting his back and calming him down.

''I will,'' I repeated, burying my face in his chest.

He tightened his hold around my waist before releasing me, and I did the same.

We stared at each other before he closed his eyes.

He took a deep breath and said, ''Let's go.''
