One year later, I and my family, the Orkish along with the workers on my farm. Are now at full swing with taking care of all of my wyverns. The little one from Blizzard and Frost is now fully grown. She looks just like the perfect mash up of her parents, deep red spikes on her head like Blizzard and a dark blue body like her father. I had a hard time naming her but the Girls (my step daughters) decided to name her Snow. After they did that the little wyvern bonded with the two Orkish Girls like I did with Blizzard. Most of the Orkish bonded with a creature, but the elders of the village didn't.
They thought that thses animals would turn on everyone if given the chance. Till that was when Frost bonded with Star and Her father, Island. Life has been pretty nice with the occational village arguments. But nothing to bad for the most part, Cyric the other day decided to go and adventure to the crash sights to the other side of the island. We never went over there because it was to dangerous with the Gigas and Carchas running around. To big to mess with if not prepaird with an army for high explosives. Now, having the Wyvrens its been easier to explore the island as a whole.
Yesterday, we found a cash of old world tech parked up on the side of a cliff. In a tipping part of the ship we crashed in years ago. How it was not fallen over the cliff or ripped apart by meat eater was a suprise to us all. What was left of the crew inside scard some of the newer crew but wasn't suprising for me. With no way of escaping the crash these people died on impact. We had to bury them and take what we could back. What we found was old tech, like I said before, from radios for more people. To sonar and long range scanners that could see as far as the other side of the world.
Some of the stuff was damaged but with my crew and the resources from Cyric's village. We built a lab on my farm and when I had time away from the farm or the Family, I would work on the devices. You might be wondering why we were doing all this and it was simple. We wanted to know is there were other people from other Ark ships on this world. If we could complete with we could return home no problem. When I mean home, I mean this island not space, we are decades from that even being a dream. Today was those days were I spent my free time rebuilding a couple of the radios.
The day was cold and dark, nothing much in the air but rain. Star was outside with Saf and Ira playing with Snow and the Rex pups. I looked up for a moment to smile at them to see I messed up a button on the radio. "Ah damn it, maybe this will work." I said replacing the button with a piece of handmade rubber I had in a drawer. It fit perfectly and I set the radio in the done crate for Cyric when he came to collect them. I then went outside to see what the three girls were doing. Still playing with the animals Star put the newest Pup down to greet me with a gentle hand to my face.
"You done with your work today, you want to head home?" She asked me feeling her leg being licked by the Rex pup. I petted the little Rex then I answered Star, "Yeah we can go home if you want my love. I've finished the last of the radios today, all I have left is the scanners and the sonar thing. But those can wait as you three are more important to me." Star blushed under her green skin when I said that, she clapped her hands and said in Orkish. "Lets head home for dinner and conversate with Grandfather." We watched the kids groan a bit and I laughed, "I can make dinner this time if you want Star?"
I asked and Star didn't want me to since I just worked all day with my chores and fixed the human devices. Till the girls got excited for my cooking, "Can you, you make the best dinners ever Jacob!" Ira said loudly making her mother scuff a bit. "Are you sure you can make dinner tonight, even after all the work you did today?" Star asked me and I nodded, "Yes dear I can make a simple dinner, plus making food always helps me sleep later." I said back to her and she smiled as she motioned for the girls to follow. "Lets head home then, come on girls, we can come back tomarrow."
Star said as we headed back to the Ork part of my small island. After a year this place looks almosts looks like the one from the forest. The only thing different is that it's much brighter from the lack of trees. That accident was horrible, Trikes running from a Rex and destroyed everything that the Orkish built. They even killed a few memebers of the village from the stamped. I had them all settle on my small island so they'd be safe from harm. From those 150 that survived, are now grown to a few more, 160 to be exact. Some of the young couples had children some time after they settled.
Some of the Orkish didn't like this place at first, but know they love the ocean scene from their windows. They also loved that my Rex Stone kept them all safe from the other dangerous animals that roamed around. Even my Frank the Carcha that guards my front farm gates started to like the Orkish when they brought him food. You could say this life is a good one but something was always in the back on my head. Cyric and the other leaders of the Arkcoven village want to start looking for the other possible survivores on this planet.
"I always start reminding myself about this problem when I start settling down from the days work. "How can we make that much metal, and were are we going to get all that man power to sail that ocean?" I asked myself when I started making dinner over the boiling pot underneath my hands. Star saw that I was destracted with something, and she knew it was something that scared me a bit. Ira who was playing with her sister saw my face wasn't focused on what I was making. But I was cooking like I wasn't preocupied with something in my head.
"Jacob are you ok, do you need help with the dinner tonight?" Ira asked stopping what she was doing to see if I was ok. I stopped sturring for a moment, then I looked right at my stepdaughter. "You want to help me?" I said offering to teach her to cook, she looked worried then Star smiled at her. "Go on, he can teach you to make the food he makes good." Star said to Ira, Ira looked worried still but then I showed her how to cut without hurting herself. "See watch what your hands are doing and you'll be fine sweetheart." I said as she tried cutting a couple of veggitables next to me as I cut up a couple birds.
We then started to make a soup that I had planed for. Something light for the cool day we are having right now. I had Star taste test the soup and she loved what we made. "You learned well Ira, maybe you should learn to cook from Jacob more dear." She said making Ira happy that she did something good. I let the soup stew for a bit till we were ready to eat. As we ate dinner that night Star kept her eyes on me till we went to bed. That's when she decided to ask me the question she had for me since dinner. "Whats stuck in your head Jacob, you've been spacy all day?"
I looked at her as I laid my head down, I smiled at her then I looked to the ceiling. "I'm not sure if I should fix those to scanners yet, I feel if I do that Cyric will rush to get a large boat finished. If that happends then he will want to bring alot of useful people with him to find the others that might of fallen to this world." I said as I raised my right hand and placed it on my forehead whipping the sweat off my face. "You think he might ask you to go with then, is that your big fear?" Star asked me and I nodded agreeing with her question. "I don't want to leave this life behind but I can't ignore a request from a friend."
I said and Star got on top of me for a minute, "Why not take us with you, the kids and me, I mean we can do something on a boat to help out." Star said as she kissed my forehead, then she got off and laid right back down next to me. I looked right at her beautiful face, Then I smiled, "you'd want to go with me stuck on a boat for months possibley. What about the kids and the possible dangers of the waters, we might not come back home for even a year." I said to her and she looked at me before she closed her eyes. "We'd follow you anywhere my dear Husband, now go to bed, we have wyverns to take care of."
Star said as I felt her head lay on my chest, I slowly feel alseep too. The air was nice and I didn't wake up till I heard the voice of my kids in the living room area. I got up and washed off yesterdays grime off my face. Then I put my clean clothes on and I head off to do my morning chores for the day. I walked right behind my girls as I took in the sun, the heat danced across my face for a moment. Then I heard my brother talking with Just. "Brother is almost done with those devices, but I see he's concerned about finishing the last ones. You know what that means for Cyric though?"
He said to Just and he agreed, "Yeah, Cyric will want us to make the Boat built to take on anything but we don't have the metal for that type of project yet." Just said to Brad as I walked up to the storage area to get my pale for the Wyvern feed. They both noticed me and said, "Good morning Jacob, did you four sleep well lastnight with that cool air?" Brad asked and I nodded, "Yeah, that was nice, not sweating like crazy is always a plus." I said back to him and Brad faked laughed for a moment. "You heard what we said didn't you?" Just asked me and I smiled, "Yeah and you're right about what I'm concerned about."
I said starting to feed my animals as we talked about why it wouldn't be good to complete both scanners so quickly. "You should just say you can't figure out the problem with one so he doesn't press on you about getting them fixed?" Brad suggested and I agreed but Just didn't agree, "He might just take it and put someone else on it for you." Just said and I agreed with his concern then I said. "I'm more worried about my family, not just you two but the others like my wife her kids and the Orkish. I need to be here and they are just to important to leave behind for a long time."
Just and Brad both looked at eachother, "We never thought about that part, you're married now and have kids to look after. If you complete this you might have to go with to make sure they sailors survive." Brad said now knowing why I was worried about it. "Well, complete it and wait to tell Cyric that it's done till you're good and ready." Brad told me and I laughed, "I don't thing that will work little brother but I'll give it a try when I get around to fxing the scanners." I said getting to the last feeding trough for the wyverns. The last ones were Blizzard and Frosts, they looked at me with hungry eyes.
"Sorry guys for beign slow today, I have alot of stuff on my mind." I said to wyverns and they blew cool air at me. Then the ate a bit as I feed the rest of the animals and went to the garden. There I saw Star and the kids working hard tending to the plants. I took a break and watched them as a giant moth landed right next to me. "Ah, you big thing, can you not scare me like that." I said to it as it looked right at me. Star saw the bug next to me and was worried right as it flew away from me. I laughed a bit then I as the girls turned to see me pull out a water jub filled with tea.
My daughters came running as Star stood up fully to walk over to me. Ira and Saf jumped right on me and grabbed a couple cups from my bag I had next to me. "Ah you two were thirsty for the tea, here slowly take a break while you drink this." I said to them and they sat right next to me on the hilly spot looking over the field. Star came up and I poured her a cup of tea. She sat on the otherside of Ira who was to my right. "This life is simple, nothing to crazy for anyone after what we all went through last year. Father is even loving the nice weather most days." Star said rubbing her belly for a moment then she looked at me.
I looked at our kids then looked at her again, Then I took a slow sip for a moment. Then I spit out finally realising what she was doing. "Wait you're?.." I asked pointing right at her belly and she smiled. "For about a month I've known dear." She replied as our kids started to put two and two together. Then they both got excited for a minute but then I thought. "How is this even possible, we arent even the same race?" I said in my head but I didn't let her see it on my face. Then though she said it, "I'm confused since we aren't the same, but I don't care I know we'll all love this little one like our girls."
I nodded agreeing with her and the girls got up to hug their mother. "A year and half ago, these two were scared of me, now they can't get enough attention from me." I said to myself laughing as I picked up Star and hugged her. "I hope this one is going to be strong like their mother and sisters. Thats all I wish for, since I know they'll be fine with the family we both have." I said to her and she kissed my forehead like she did always. "We must tell my Brother and Father, I know Mother might be concerned." Star said back to me and I let her down, "Lets go now and not waste time on this my love.
We left the hill and went into the village to find her family. We passed a few people but who we ran into was Star's mother. Sky was washing a bowl of something when she spotted us. She dropped the bowl and walked right up to Star. "My dear, you're with child?" Sky asked Star and Star nodded putting her guard up. "Oh, this is wonderful for the both of you. Jacob, you've been a great second Father to my Grandchildren, I know you'll be a great father to this one too." She said grabbing my hand, then she hugged me tight. "I'm sorry for being stubbern with you my son, I'm just be a protective mother."
She told me and I gave her a tighter hug back, which made all three of my girls smile. "Finally," Star said putting her arms around Ira and Saf as I told Sky. "I never thought bad of how you treated me mother. You were keeping your eyes on a strange man, it's completely understandable. Please now lets go find Island and Zer to tell them the news." Sky pointed to were those two men were and they were looking right at us. Zer was drinking water then I pointed at Star's belly. Zer looked confused then I pointed at the girls and motioned me carring a baby.
Like me in mid drink he spit his water out on his father. I could hear him say, "Really!" From across the village as he came running, everyone in the village heard him and watched. Island was as confused as everyone else till Zer picked me up hugging me then hugging Star. "Everyone Sister Star is with child, you can guess who's the father!" He yelled out as everyone stopped doing what they were doing. Then like in a motion picture, everyone started to cheer and congradulate us on this feet. Then my brother came into the village because he heard the yelling from the Stables a mile away.
I told him what was going on and he had questions like I did. Though he was happy for me, then we all had a feast till the night fell. I went to bed that night now knowing that I was going to have my first child soon. Yes I have my stepdaughters, but I've aways wanted to grow my family a bit bigger. Someone to really merge both sides of my Wife and I. This kid was the ticket, but I hope this little one grows up fine. Being a person of two different races might be a bit harder to deal with. "I'll keep an eye on them when they're born, especially when it comes to the human side."
I said in my head looking at my sleeping Star, I turned to look at the ceiling to feel Star cuddling up to my side. I fell asleep to her cool skin touching mine and I slept like a baby all night." In the morning on queue I was woken to my children getting ready for the day. Then I heard a third voice in my kitchen area of the hut. I got up whipped off my face then ran out to see that it was Cyric. He had a smile on his face and a question for me. "I heard from your brother that you're going to have a baby with lovley Star here soon. Congrats on that, also you can put off those devices till you feel its a good time to fix them."
Cyric said telling me that he's been busy working on finding a mine worth mining for the metal needed for the ship. I thanked him and he left without saying much else. I looked at Star and she had the "I don't believe thats all he came here for." Look, that made me smile and I said, "You might be right, I feel he's hidding something under that smile of his." I went over to the kitchen storage box where I had ice in it and I grabbed a half frozen jar of water. I set it on the counter then I didn't add anything into the jar. We returned to the farm to see Brad had a weird look on his face.
"Brother I went for a fly on the water wyvern we just got and I saw something ten miles off the coast going west. I saw what looked like another big island, much the size of ours but greener." I looked to the ground and I sighed, "I felt that something was up today, did you tell Cyric this brother?" I asked Brad and he shook his head "No" then said. "He wasn't informed about this yet, he just heard something crazy happened from the workers then came to see what was up. Otherwise you were the only person I've told about this brother, not even Just knows about it yet."
Brad said to me, I looked at my wife Star and she gave me suprised look. "The world has really bad timing doesn't it?" She said making me laugh a bit, "Yeah, now I have to get that scanner done but the sonar I'll wait." I said back to her and she agree'd, "maybe there is people over there from your other ships?" She added as we started to feed the wyverns for the morning. I had my mind stuck on what my brother told me. "Another island not far from here, would they have humans or will there be dangerous more angry people on the island."
