Chapter Five

KADE

"You're crazy if you think I'm letting you go in there on your own. Not after what you told me." I said getting out of the car.

'I'll never let anything hurt him ever again.' I thought 'I'll protect him with everything I have.'

We walked up to the front door together. Before Ace could get his key in the lock, the door swung open. "Why the hell are you so late?" Ace's father, I assumed, said angrily.

"Hello, Mr. Anderson? I am Kade Smith from the school. I am your son's teacher." I faked a smile.

The man glared at me then turned his glare to Ace, "What did you do." He turned to me, "Come in." Once inside he continued, "Please don't tell me that he started flirting with you." He said with disgust.

I shook my head and tried not to get too angry. I looked down at Ace, I put my hand on his shoulder, "Why don't you go pack?" He nodded and ran up the stairs.

"It came to my attention today that Ace has not been treated properly. As a teacher, it is my job to report these kinds of things. As guided by Child Protective Services, I will be taking Ace."

'He doesn't need to know that I'm doing this all on my own. What he doesn't know won't hurt him.'

"What?! You can't take my son! You have no right!" He yelled, his face getting red with anger.

"What are you going to do to stop me? Call the police? Fight me?" I asked stepping forward. He had to crane his neck to look up at me. "Go ahead, call the police, I have enough proof of child abuse and neglect to put you away. Try and fight me and I'll put you on your ass."

I left him there shaking and went to help Ace pack. I followed his scent up the stairs to where it was strongest. I entered the room after knocking, Ace was standing in front of a wood dresser with no decorations on top.

He turned to me and smiled, he was holding a bookbag and was stuffing clothes into it. "I don't have much so this shouldn't take too long." He said.

I looked around the room and frowned. It was plain, there were no posters on the walls, no photos, not even color, and the walls were off-white beige. The room was empty aside from the bed and a dresser. In the far corner of the room, opposite the main door was a door that lead to a closet.

Ace must have seen my frown because he said, "They took everything when I came out, said that I didn't deserve it if I was choosing to live a life of sin."

"No one will ever speak to like that again. I won't allow it." I said walking to him and putting a hand on his shoulder.

Just as we were finishing packing the last bag, there was a small knock on the door. I turned and saw a small, wide woman standing there with a sad look on her face. Ace looked at her with a face that gave no emotion.

The woman walked in and closed the door. She quietly walked to us and looked at Ace, "I know I didn't do the job a mother should. I didn't protect you when you needed it. I know it's too late, but I'm sorry I wasn't here when you needed me. Now all I can say is that I hope you find happiness and I hope you stay safe." She said. She look at me and put a hand on my arm, "Please, take care of him." and then she was gone.
