The Human Region consists of 4 major governmental departments.
The Militia, The Literacy, The Practition and The Legislate.
The Militia is the largest branch of the Human Region government's department.
The Literacy being second. Knowledgeable people, informants and scholars.
They handle our educational administration and manage our zone systems.
The Practition are a group of field units like our Cyber unit and Medics.
And lastly, the most dangerous of the 4 departments; The Legislate.
They make the law, they change the law, they overwrite the law.
Politicians, legislates, representatives, congress, senators and public servants.
They are the least in number but they are above all four.
That makes them the most dangerous to be an enemy of.
Even I am afraid to be their enemy. Because they can make me disappear if I prove to be a threat to society.
"Adeleine!"
"Yeah?" I respond.
I stopped writing and I close my laptop to give Gina my full attention.
She ties her blonde hair in a pony as she lean on my desk. Her tight clothes visibly showcases her curves.
"Hey eyes here, honey." she snaps her fingers.
"The husband brought you to the mall?" I ask.
"We went shopping for an event. I may have been overboard with the card limit."
"Ah."
Gina crosses her arms. "What are you up to?"
"My book." I answer.
"Right. Okay, so I might be out of town for the next few days..."
She begins to ramble on this trip that she and her husband will be taking.
There was this claim of a new sub-zone opening up in Zone 21 so she wanted to check it out.
A.K.A. a cover up that she will take it as a way to take a vacation without affecting her vacation leave.
Smart little weasel.
"...no one will be able to answer your boyfriend's calls anymore so I asked our IT to direct the calls to you."
"What?"
"Come on, I know you're working with the Milita." Gina pulls my chair.
Then she leaned her face close to mine.
Gave me time to notice her red new lipstick, new makeup and eyeliner. Does she have a date?
"Whatever big case this is, I can cover for you. As long as I get a cut."
"Are we gonna pretend you care about the cut or you just want to showcase your new makeup kit?"
I know her well enough to be aware of her intentions.
And most of the time it's always about bragging what she has.
"Of course girl! Look at my new makeup, they even smell good!"
She laughs. And I patiently listen to her spread her arrogance to our other co-workers.
When she's gone, I shake my head and get back to my laptop.
Killian still haven't replied to my text and the Militia wouldn't let me in their quarters.
I've been trying to figure out Reese's message by myself but I am missing out on the bigger puzzle.
I can't wait anymore. I will have to do this the illegal way.
If there really was an option I wouldn't resort to this.
But they gave me no choice.

I went to the Militia residential building. It's where Reese and the rest of his team stays to stick close to work premises.
Killian told me all about the flaws of their security system.
He wanted me to play the prince role while he plays Rapunzel. Kidding.
But he does want me to visit him at times that he's down. Especially if they worked on a depressing case.
The entire zone is protected by walls and each residential building protected by security gates or fences.
The residential building that Killian stays in is protected by metal fences and protected by keycards and passcodes.
He already gave me the passcode a few months back.
I wore the Militia uniform that Killian gave me as well.
It's fake of course, with fake badges and ID. It was for this party he's been bugging me to go to.
But I can't attend unless I'm part of the Militia so he made a way.
It was easy for me to infiltrate until I reached the back of the building.
The fence stood like a barrier between me and the back door.
Door is locked by an access control system. 6-digit password. There's an option for biometrics and keycards.
Killian of course opted to give me the passcode instead of having the trouble of saving my fingerprint or stealing a keycard.
|| Input password ||
I input the passcode I remember.
|| Password Denied! ||
I try again.
|| Password Denied! ||
If I input it wrong the third time I'm in trouble. So I don't.
It's a military location. Of course passcodes could change every now and then.
Killian didn't give me the new one. Great.
It means I can't sneak in this way either. I need another way in.
"Having trouble with the door?" a man asked me from behind.
His voice is firm, deep and a slight western accent. He sounds friendly. But I need to be careful.
I took a deep breath before I faced him with a smile.
"Yeah, it's not budging." I pretend.
This is honestly a long shot but I have no other choice.
It's either I keep lying or be caught and arrested.
"Let me try." he offers.
I notice he has a lot of badges on his uniform. Must be a high-ranking unit.
He pulled out his keycard from his pocket and with one simple swipe, the lock unclicked.
The indicator turns green and a vibration sound beeped as the door opens.
"Sometimes passcodes get a little glitchy so I always have my card with me." he explains.
He chuckled and opened the door wide for me to enter.
"Ladies first." he tipped his hat.
"Thank you gentleman." I blend in and enter.
Yes I'm in!
"I haven't seen you around these parts. You must be new."
Think! Think! Think!
"Yes, new transfer from the 99." I totally made that up.
"Ah Camp Nab." he said and chuckled.
I have no idea what that would have meant for the Militia.
It could be an inside joke of the sort.
"Lt. Giles Vosler," he offers his hand, "I want to welcome you to our fort, recruit."
He bought my lie? I smile. I'm nervous behind my bright smile but I keep it up.
"A pleasure to meet you sir." and I shake his hand.
"This place has a lot more action than the 99. Your training will be put to use."
"About time! My training is getting rusty."
That is a very bad attempt to impersonate Hilde.
"A'ight recruit, get some rest. I'll see you at the assembly."
Vosler walked towards the red door marked for 'authorized personnel only'.
Of course his keycard gave him access to that locked door.
Which means he's authorized personnel.
I sigh in relief.
Who said an inexperienced journalist can't play spy?
