Chapter 5
Jake's POV
"Boy can that Violet girl run. She must be an Alpha" Chris our third in command said to me, his little brother Zane. Jackson is our Alpha and I am the beta, which is the second in command. We are in the packhouse in Jackson's office after school.
"But she smelled like human which is strange because coach made us do crazy hard work and all of us were sweating but she wasn't." I said thinking hard about what happened earlier today. She did have a human scent her but it was slightly off.
"I know it was weird right." Zane said.
"It was totally weird because today I accidently bumped into Violet's little sister Summer when me and a few friends were messing around right before lunch. I had tried several times to say sorry but it looked like Summer was about to cry. I followed Summer but lost her because a teacher wanted to talk to me and when I found Summer she was crying and Violet looked like she was going to kill me. I walked over and Violet stood protectively over Summer and looked at me to Summer and then back to me again and I could tell there was a lot of rage in Violets eyes. Violet asked Summer who I was and if I was the person who did that to her. Summer didn't say anything so I said my name for her and told Violet what happened and then she told me that she would be forgiving this time. However next time she wont be as forgiving and after a while of silence then got annoyed and said 'I forgive you just this once but if it ever happens again she will rip me to shreds or something worse and I wont be as forgiving' and she paused then said 'oh you next time tell me the hole truth' because I left a few things out. In Summers eyes I saw sadness and maybe guilt but she quickly covered it up" Zane said recoundting what had happened to him earlier.
"Okay so Violet is super protective but how come Summer wouldn't talk to you or even give a slight nod or really any acknowledgement at all after you 'bumped' into her?" Jack (Jackson) said. "It doesn't make any sense to me"
"These girls Violet and Summer are strange. Maybe something happened in their past?" Chris said a confused look on his face trying to come up with something to explain the odd behavor.
"I was so scared and I thought I was going to get killed on the spot." Zane said with a scared look.
"Let us see what happens tomorrow at school." Jack said
"I might come into school tomorrow to see what is up but lets talk about what Edward saw earlier today." Jack continued. Edward is our head worrior and also a good tracker.
"What happened Jackson?" I asked
"There was a lone male wild wolf and when we got closer he started to get angry when we approched kind of like he was guarding something. I had one of the worriors try to see what he was protecting but non of us could get anywhere near the place with out the wild wolf attacking us or growling. He ended up chasing us."
"Could he have a mate with him or a pup that he was defending?" I asked Jack trying to think of reasons why a wild male wolf was a lone and protecting a place so vicioulsly.
"Non of us could smell another wild wolf but there was some strange scent there but we couldnt get any where near it to try to figure it out. He was defending the place really well and its so out of character for a wild wolf not to submit to me an Alpha. we will see if we can go there later to see if we can find something if the wild wolf isnt there. Any way Edward go back out and see if you can find the wild wolf and take a team with you you might need back up." Jackson said.

Violet's POV

"Lets go and head home then I might take you out on a hunting trip only if you hurry though." I said to Summer as she walked through the door and out the front of school. Once she heard that she ran past me heading in the direction to our home. I just laughed.
"Hurry up Vi!!! I want to go" Summer yelled back over her shoulder to me.
"Common lets go then so no one sees us." I said still chuckling to myself at my sisters enthusiasm at the thought of going hunting with Balto and I.
We started walking in the forest heading towards home but once we were a couple minutes in the forest I shifted into my snow leopard and Summer climbed onto my back with her backpack/school bag on her back and mine in my mouth carrying it. I run as fast as I can with the added weight but considering I have done this a lot it gets easier. Once we are back home I shifted into my human form and changed into my cloths. Balto was no where to been seen so I started to get a bit worried. I tried to contact him but I couldn't reach him. He is usually here waiting for us. Balto might have caught a scent from the neighbouring pack and must have gone to check it out. If that is the case Summer and I can't go looking for him otherwise we could possibly get caught.
"Summer Balto isn't here so we are going to put that hunt on hold until Balto comes back. If he doesn't come back in 3 hours we will go out looking for him I promise" I said to Summer trying to hold the worried tone in and not to let my fears take over.
"Do you think he will be fine?" Summer asks.
"I'm sure he will be. The neighbouring pack might have wonder a bit too close. I'm sure everything will be fine sis. You know how well Balto is trained. And as I said if he isn't back within 3 hours then we take to the skies I promise" I said to Summer hugging her to calm her down.
2 and a half hours passed and Balto come at us looking worriedly in his wolfish ways, panting frantically.
"What's wrong with you, you are never like this like ever." I said to him and started to get worried thinking about all different scenarios swarming in my head.
"Some.. people .... came c-clo-close b-but I..I" Balto said before collapsing onto the ground.
"Common we need to get him to the vet clinic NOW!" I said really worriedly and afraid for him because he collapsed in front of us. Summer was worried as well. She loves Balto as much as I do and he is like a brother to us both. He is the closest and only male Summer isn't afraid of even though he is a wolf, she wont go near any other animal or human that is male except Balto. We hurried to the vet clinic I work at with Balto in my arms with me silently crying trying to stay strong for Summer. Summer rang the vet before we get there and said that we had a wolf who is a injured wolf pup about 1 and a half and said that he just collapsed in front of us and she told my boss that it was in fact Balto. Summer opened the door to the clinic for me as I rushed Balto into the emergency room where Dr Rose my boss was and put Balto onto the table. Rose looked shocked at my tears and told me to sit in the waiting room with Summer and try to get some rest. I obviously couldn't rest without knowing how Balto was doing but listened to Dr Rose and went to the waiting room with Summer. I put Summer's head onto my lap and let her curl up into me. She went to sleep about 5 minutes later struggling to keep her eyes open.
