Chapter 45: Sharing the Project

“What did you find out on your end?” Emile asked anxiously when he and Sheila sat on a small rock, in the shade of a tree the following day. They were on the other side of the forest stream.

“Mildred and Chase were adopted by a Mr. and Mrs. Channing thirty years ago,” Sheila responded. That’s not a secret, but the biological parents are a mystery at this point.”

“That’s what I found out as well,” Emile remarked, scratching his head. “We will have to chat to their adoptive mother, because their adoptive father passed away five years ago.”

“What if she just doesn’t want to talk to us?” Sheila asked.

“We won’t know if we don’t try,” Emile responded.

“What kind of excuse will we use?” Sheila asked.

“We can say that it’s for a school project,” Emile suggested.

“A lie again?” Sheila asked.

“We just want to get our answers, so that we can move on, aren’t we?” Emile responded.

“You want to know why you ended up painting her, I know,” Sheila acknowledged.
