Aoi and The Violin

Right after I entered the school grounds, something struck me as odd. I have been arriving at school early everyday since I have enrolled and the morning never felt like this. There was not much of a crowd to be seen around the school yet so I hurriedly walked towards the main building.

"Hmm"

Did not take long for me to realize the key difference between this morning and the rest. Right now, as everyone was walking and minding their own business. Someone is producing a beautiful melody that could be heard throughout the entire campus. In respect to the performer, I stopped and briefly listened to what was being played. "The Lark Ascending. There's actually a person here who can perform that piece. Violin is not easy to master" I said impressed by the melody.

The school's atmosphere, the tension, the mood was being washed away by 'The Lark Ascending'. Hearing this piece made me feel so nostalgic, I had to remind myself that I was in school. Being with someone you love at the countryside while listening to this melody. "Oh God, I can't even begin to imagine such a perfect scenario".

Everyone seemed to be in the same boat as me. The melody being produced was liked by everyone. Even those who knows nothing about the violin. It's hard to deny the greatness of what is being played. Playing the violin some mornings actually ain't a bad idea. It really relaxes a person's mind when played properly. Seconds before I entered the main building, the melody stopped. "Seriously"

The school went silent. The students stopped what they were doing curious to why the melody stopped playing. Soon after, an overplayed violin piece began to fill the entire school. Just like that I lost some respect for the person who was playing the violin. She was doing so good playing The Lark Ascending, why did she have to go and ruin it by playing the most irritating piece yet.

"Spring by Vivaldi. That one is great and all but I have heard it so many times it's starting to get annoying. Too many TV shows play this one melody. I can't stand listening to it anymore. This melody played throughout the whole school for almost ten minutes before it stopped. Curiosity kicked it so I went and investigated where the violin was being played. My first guess was the music room but no dice.

Did not take long for me to find where though. The violinist who was playing for the school to hear was inside the student council room. Student Council had access to speakers where they can make sudden announcements. With the help of those speakers, the violin could be heard all over the school no problem. The door knocked loud repeatedly until the performer paused her playing and opened the door. As soon as she did, her face looked shocked.

She must have thought one of the council members were entering. Not some nobody like myself. I recognized the face immediately. A black haired girl with twin tails reaching her shoulders, black eyes and a horizontal scar on her right cheek.

"Morning Aoi, didn't know you played the violin" I told her. To play these pieces with such mastery at her age is something to be proud of.

Aoi Quin, a member of Class 1B just like myself. I think of myself as a quiet person but if I'm being honest here. If someone was to get an award for being the most quiet in our class, Aoi would win it easily. The sound of her voice is unknown to the whole class. Aoi nodded at my statement then continued to play the violin. While resuming, she closed her eyes and put on a faint smile. Enjoying the violin to her fullest.

Thankfully, she stopped playing Vivaldi's Spring. Instead she transitioned to something I actually adored. "Prelude in E Major"

The swift movements of her right hand and left fingers reminded me of how my cousin plays this piece. She would normally get tired halfway.

This is far better than any street performance I have witnessed. Her fast pace was enticing and easy to listen to. This piece was by no means easy but here she is, playing like a pro. There was one complaint, she ended Prelude too quickly. I as well as many others wanted to hear more of it, I'm sure.

"Hungarian Dance No.5. You sure love the 18th and 19th century huh" I told her. She listened to my suggestion and began playing Hungarian Dance. A very energetic vibe to it, the melody was swift yet sweet. However she made couple of mistakes while playing the violin. She tries to cover them up but I noticed them. "What's the matter? Your fingers are moving too slow. You're getting tired cuz what I'm hearing isn't a perfect Hungarian Dance No 5" I said strongly. In response to what I said, Aoi played a different tune.

The melody for this one was a little sad and unique from the rest up till now. The melody gave me the impression that this was her way of apologizing to me. "Zigeuerwelson by Sarasate right. It's been a while since I've heard that one. Judging from the pieces you have played, you're a pretty old schoo gal aren't you" I said trying to get her to speak.

She started playing the Hungarian Dance No 5 again. This time, she tries her best not to ruin her own melody because of her fatigue. In all honesty, i think it is best for her to play one piece each morning. Switching between them repeatedly might annoy some students instead of lifting their spirits.

The President and Vice President, Stephano and Alice entered the student council room at exactly 8am. They greeted Aoi and I with surprised look on their faces. Alice held Aoi's hand and praised her for her skills with the violin. "You're amazing miss. You're welcome here anytime to spread your melody across the school" she told her excitedly. Stephano agreed with her. He also had something to add. "Next time just ask for our permission to come in Ok. We'll happily accept you".

After finish praising Aoi for her performance this morning, the two council members stared at me.

"Good morning Alice"

"Morning Stephano"

"Morning!"

Yesterday I told Stephano a big secret of mine. I'm happy to see that he is still treating me normally after what I told him. Alice wrapped her arms around me and asked "How's school treating you?"

"Better I guess"

"Excellent. I was worried, we can't have our juniors suffer so early ya know"

Alice's words caused me to blush uncontrollably. I turned my face away from her to hide red cheeks. Surprisingly when I looked at Aoi, she was blushing too. She was staring at Alice while fantasizing about who knows what. "The hell, does she like Alice too?"
