Jaws

In the first few weeks of this month, filming had already started and Alexander relegated himself to the sidelines.

His role is a tad unimportant in the first movie and he was only there to familiarize himself with the crew.

The last week of June was an even laxer time as the Creed trio wanted to ease their tension before their film is to be shown. This break was also accounted for in the film schedule, so it didn't affect the budget much but it would still disrupt the built momentum.

There wasn't really much momentum from the start, given that the crew that was hired for this film production is unabashedly unenthusiastic.

It isn't a secret to them that the last ambitious film that Mark Creed made still hasn't shown what it is about, so they had a lot of reservations. Kid Psychic was already an overhyped film for moviegoers who were tired of seeing its unorthodox trailer.

It was fortunate that the filming crew was only stiff machines due to the detailed storyboards, Mark didn't really care much for the toxic work ethics on the set.

Only a week was left before the ambitious premiere of Kid Psychic but the older Creeds realized that Universal almost beat them to the punch.

Their strategies were somewhat close but they were able to breathe relief when it was only about 400 theaters.

The Jaws movie was to be released on this very day and Alexander coincidentally asked that they go to the theatres to watch it.

Thus, Mark and Sullivan could be seen looking up at the bold titles that were displayed on a certain theatre's entrance.

"Jaws and Speilberg. The director doesn't ring many bells to me but the movie's premise is extremely fitting for the season." Sullivan commented as they headed inside to buy tickets.

"I've watched the director's Amblin and Duel and they aren't too bad. As for the premise, it must be the reason why Universal is confident enough to lobby about half of the overall theatres of the nation." Mark followed suit and gave his judgment as well. "I heard that this was meant to be released last year and I have to say that it is a wise move for them due to the appropriateness of the season."

"Oh! Insider gossips. Would this movie prove to be a problem for us?" Sullivan needed his son's expert opinion as he was a bit on the needles from all the long wait.

"We'll know when we will know." The director/producer of the family could only reply that way. "Dad, please remember that I am not a fortune teller!"

Alexander was just quiet the whole time. This was his disguise whenever he goes outside. He would either be inconspicuous or child-mannered which should fit his age.

Jaws was a PG movie so he had no trouble going into the movies.

The grandfather-father banter eventually stopped and all that was left was for the movie to start. Everyone was in their seats and the relatively full seating meant that Universal's advertising technique worked.

Truth be told, Alexander was the one who asked for Kid Psychic to be scheduled a week after this movie.

Jaws was the Jaws for a reason.

It made film history in more ways than one. Jaws set precedents in Hollywood and changed the way the industry did business.

It changed the way people in America go to the movies and introduced one of our most prolific and talented directors to the world.

The movie eventually started and as the audience and his elders were getting immersed in the thrills and conflicts, Alexander ruminated on the glory of Jaws.

He didn't need to see the movie as it was already imprinted on his mind by Other Joe. He doubted there would be many changes due to some butterfly effect, so he had the entire movie time to ruminate.

A shark attack results in the police and the mayor having conflicts. One wanted to solve the crime, while the other wants to preserve his fun beach facade.

A tiger shark red herring until it shifted to an even bigger kind, the Great White Shark!

Shark hunts, alienations, boat sinking, shark fights, and many deaths later... it would lead to the audience having their summer plans subverted.

The 'buzz' would then be spread by the moviegoers to their neighbors and those neighbors would form long queue's to see what is it all about.

Beachgoers would be afraid to go to the summer waters. Summer resorts would curse at it. And a cycle of money would horde to the filmmakers from teenagers having saved up money and having no troublesome schoolwork.

He suggested for his father and grandfather see the film so that they can make adjustments to whatever social effect it would do on society and the moviegoing experience as a whole.

As Alexander finally wrapped up his train of thought, the movie was already rolling its credits and the applause was resounding in the darkly lit halls.

"Well, it is interesting, to say the least!" Sullivan begrudgingly said. The thrill and suspense that a single shark pervaded in the entire movie was an achievement in of itself. He was actually impressed but he didn't want to show it to his unknowing competitors.

"Whatever you say, Dad!" Mark was a movie aficionado and he can say that the film is a likely winner, however, he has a much more eased feeling compared to his troubled father with regards to competing against it.

"Now that we've seen it, we can also prepare ourselves. Besides, it is a much different genre than ours. Also, if it really does well, it can be a useful foil for us to propel our own work." Mark remarked as they walked out of the theater and headed for their car.

"Our strategies are much more widespread and a step ahead of theirs. I guess piggybacking on their success for a few days isn't that bad!" Old Sullivan nodded as things were already set in stone. All that was left was how to make do with what they had in great advantage.

Alexander, who was just behind the both of them, was silently smiling from knowing that his goal for this little trip was undoubtedly achieved.
