Chapter 8

Donavan's Pov

Everyday I walk into the school filled with other teenagers that look up to me for any and all answers to questions they have. I never asked to be the up and coming alpha. I honestly didn't want any of that but it wasn't my choice. When the last alpha was dying he made a choice. He had two beta's both with heirs that were young enough to be groomed to be the next alpha. My family was one of the choices and so was another family. I didn't know much about the other family but I do know that the parents of the little girl got into a car crash and my parents took the young girl to a new family. I didn't think to much of it because on that day I had to take a new path and learn to become the next best alpha.

When I walked into the school on a regular Monday morning not really wanting to be here. School had never been my thing. Yes I was an hour student but not because I loved learning new things but because everything just came easy for me. My mother had already given me the run down that there would be a new student coming that won her silly contest and she had the audacity to think that I would keep an eye out for this nerd when all I want to do is finally tell her off about how I am old enough to make my own decisions and find my own way without her breathing down my neck.

Although my whole world changed when I set my eyes on our new student. She was breathtaking but as I stared longer something else happened. I saw flashes of her childhood. Days scrounging around for food, long hours at this dinner just to make ends meet, and the worst of all the day my parents shut her out of our lives forever. Instantly after those memories I felt disgusted with my parents but most of all with myself. I had known what they had done for years just so that I could get everything they wanted for me, at the expense of this poor girl but I had never once tried to find her so that we could have an even chance to become the next alpha. It was a miracle that we would both get what the old alpha wanted, like he knew that in the end we would both learn to become the best parts of each other together.

For the rest of the day I all but followed her around hoping that maybe she would find my eyes and figure out who we would be to each other. As the end of the day came to loom over my head she still hadn't noticed me. This had never been my problem, girls used to fling themselves at me hoping to maybe get a chance to be the new alphas mate but it was like I was invisible to her. Before I lost all hope staring at her as she got into her car she looked up right into my eyes. After a few seconds of what I assumed was her watching my memories she stared at me with the most terrified look on her face and drove away as fast as she could. My mate rejecting me had never crossed my mind and I was determined to make her mine however long it takes.

That night I couldn't help but wonder why she would want to run away from me. Didn't she want a mate yes I understood that her past hadn't been the best because of my parents but we were meant to be. She was meant to make me the best version of myself that I could be and I could keep her safe from anything and everything that would come to try and rain on her perfect blue sky.

The next morning I hadn't slept a wink so I decided to go out for a run. I didn't really look where I was running I just wanting to get as far away from my reality as possible. After finding a clearing I stopped when I heard a small laughter and my gaze landed on an adorable little girl playing with the most beautiful wolf I had ever seen. In an instant I knew it was her when her eyes met mine but just like yesterday she ran from my grasp without a world.

Time went by past and any chance I got I would find her but she disappeared every time. Finally I got fed up and followed her home but it wasn't her home. It was her work place. I couldn't help but follow her in and take a seat. She was just so captivating and I knew I would do anything to make sure that she would be mine.
