Chapter 32: The start

"I happy that I at least placed 4th, I'm the closest to the top 3"

Emily mumbled to herself. She was honestly expecting to be among the top 3, but 4 wasn't that bad a number in her eyes, no, as long as she was among the top 10 Emily was content. Although Emily did wonder about the top three since they were already famous before coming to Ignatius.

"If I remember correctly, the 1st is the first son to the king, basically a member of the house of fire while the second is the daughter to the house of ice and the third is from the house of earth."

The three of them were renown for being this generation's strongest each of them had an abnormal output level, but Mia had the most potential in this generation. Zach was known for his near perfect control over his element and his potential to achieve resonance. By the way Emily has the lowest index for resonance along with Mono, Nobe, and violet.

Julius, an earth user, is known for his sheer physical strength as well as both his mana proficiency and output being abnormal and his somewhat distorted past. As for Mia, she is known for both her beauty and strength, she has received more proposals than Emily and Rina combined, but she is also known for her laziness and distant attitude towards most and her friendly nature with zach.

With her mana proficiency at beyond and her output at abnormal as well as a high resonance index, she is among those most favored by heaven.

Emily really couldn't care less; she never really was one with an envious nature, no that's wrong, she was shown the peace in gratitude and being content with what she already possesses.

Emily nodded her head in respect to the top three, if they deserved it or not was not up to her to decide, since she witnessed Zach's physical strength and heat of his flames especially his control, she thought he was an experienced veteran. His power wasn't normal for a child, be it talent of effort he was really deserving of the first position. Since Mia's laziness is known it wasn't a shock to her that she placed 2nd even though she could place first, as for Julius if Emily did want to be part of the top 3 she would have to defeat him first.

While Emily was contemplating on what to do, Rina, who was beside her the entire time, finally spoke up.

"The ranking is quite funny, don't you think?"

Emily confused by the question tilted her head at Rina who found this cute.

"The elements each student possesses."

At that statement Emily looked back at the ranking list that was framed in platinum, gold, silver, bronze. With the platinum holding only the top ten, gold holding the following ten, silver holding the following twenty and bronze holding the rest. What Rina was talking about was the Platinum list.

Emily looked back at Rina and replied, "I have no idea what elements the 6th and below have." Since the ranking tests were held at three different grounds, she wasn't sure what those who weren't in her group possessed. And Rina expecting this replied casually.

"The order goes like this from the 6th till the 10th. Blood(Nora Scarlet), time(Nobe), wind(Sophia Allision), water(Amber Eva), blood(Genesis Scarlet). As for the 11th till the 17th, nature(Amelia Fern) lightning(Abner Kijo), light(Vincent Cecil), sound(Anna Jasmine), fire(Elena Abigail), nature(Fiona Jespersen), wind(Ester violet). Those are the only one's worth highlighting."

'Mouthful' randomly popped up in Emily's head. But she still didn't get what's so funny as Rina had stated earlier so just asked.

"What's funny is that the top 10 are all from a house and those that follow are mostly commoners and I'm sure you're at least aware of noble pride."

It really was funny in a way since most of the privileged were honestly mocking commoners, but the ranking tells a different story. But Emily still didn't get it and proceeded to ignore Rina, looking back at the list Emily stared at the name Vincent Cecil, she had no idea who he was, but she immediately felt hostility towards him.

Rina glanced at Emily with an amused look, 'The enmity between light and darkness users is deep, she doesn't even know the guy, but she already dislikes him. Poor Vincent.' Rina shook her head in pity.

Elements naturally have their opposites, and this always affects the tide of a battle as well as an elementals mentality. Fire and water are opposites so in battle only their strength shall matter since one shall have to overpower the other to win, but it doesn't affect their relationship, sure fire is aggressive and violent while water is peaceful and docile, they still live together harmoniously.

As for light and darkness, there is no in-between, the immediate urge of darkness user to a light is to 'put of the light' while for a light user, it's to 'purge the darkness' or 'eradicate it'. It was so bad to the point both elementals are banned from forming a party, marrying or being in the same room alone for too long.

And the worst part is that it's not the user's impulse it's the element itself. This has been the only case in which an element affects a user to such a degree of in sighting war, its literally impossible for the two elements to co-exist with each other.

Emily's reaction is understandable and worst off unavoidable, so the best Rina could do for her is preventing these two from meeting, ever.

Putting Emily's increasing murderous impulses aside, Rina was genuinely surprised that Nobe placed just below her, not surprised at his capabilities since she witnessed those firsthand, what surprised her was the fact that he placed 7th . Although Rina wasn't in the same test group as Nobe, she was with Nora scarlet, the female twin of the 'blood twins' from the house of blood.

In elemental control and flexibility, Nobe was far greater than Nora from what she observed as for their physical aspects, she didn't see Nobe use them before so she can't compare the two, but she was sure that they were similar. All Nora exceeded Nobe in was mana proficiency and elemental adaptability. So she guessed he willingly placed a lower rank than he deserves, as for how and why she couldn't guess but she was considering asking him.

'Since when was close to that sad creature?' Rina wondered in complete surprise. Usually she never bothers with new people since she's content with those currently around her, but with only her meeting Nobe once she already sub-consciously deemed him close.

'Is it because he's friend's with Mono? Yeah, that's it.' She still has her own pride though.

'By the way speaking of Mono, why the hell did he place 28th?.'

What shocked her and Emily the most was Mono's position. Immediately after finding theirs they searched for his only to find him at 28th, they are aware of his displeasure towards attention and his habit to d make it go away as fast as possible, or ignoring it, but this was too much.

Rina already sent him a message questioning his position, but she still hasn't received a reply after an hour. Emily thought if she should ask too but since Rina did she saw no purpose in doing so.

After a while Emily and Rina decided to go and get something to eat and drink, both, especially Emily, were exceptionally happy since they didn't have to pay for such and even if they did they were given a 40% discount, ALWAYS. One can see where Emily's booming smile was originating from.

On the way to a random café in Ignatius, Rina spotted Nobe who then spotted her. Rina stopped walking and stared at Nobe while he did the same, Emily looked back and forth between the two until their staring went passed a minute, so she dragged Rina towards him.

"I didn't lose, just the conditions weren't in my favor."

Rina coughed in dissatisfaction as she looked at the 'conditions' which was Emily. Nobe though, was on his own crack and asked, "Your friends with Emily right?"

Rina surprised at this stupid question looked at the 'conditions' once more and thought, 'Does this fool not know that she's right in front of him?.' She was about to point and call Emily out, but Emily stuck her side, and she took the message.

"Yeah, why?."

"Mono was to give her this book to her but he's busy right now, So please deliver this to her for him. Was his request."

Nobe, still looking a bit messed up casually pushed a thick book into Rina's hands. At this action he finally took notice of Emily, who was shorter than him, and waved at her then proceeded to disappear, literally. Well, he technically just accelerated his movement speed to an excessive point.

"Looks like he has some where to be."

Rina mumbled and gave to book to Emily. Emily already had a guess as to what it was, so she just put it in her shadow and continued on her merry way to the café.
