Okay, okay!

"Don't you even think about interfering in our business!" Zadkiel's voice surged in anger as he stared down at his phone, his finger hovering above the screen. He hadn't even given the other person a chance to respond before abruptly ending the call.

Exhaling a frustrated breath, Zadkiel tossed his phone onto the table with a mixture of disdain and annoyance. His brows furrowed as he paced back and forth across the room, his hands clenching and unclenching at his sides. The interruption had thrown him off balance, disrupting the carefully maintained equilibrium of his thoughts.

"Damn it," he muttered under his breath, his fingers running through his hair in a gesture of exasperation. He hated feeling cornered, hated the intrusion on his already tumultuous thoughts.

A soft knock on the door interrupted his momentary solace, and he turned his attention toward it. "What?" he snapped, his voice still edged with irritation.
