165. Why can't you love me?

Elaine gripped her cutlery tightly upon hearing Hayford's voice. She could see from the way he looked at her that he really didn't mean for the incident to happen. 

But it happened anyway, and as bad as it was, she had already started looking at the brighter side. If they had feelings for each other, they could just take it from there, right? But then, she heard him say,

"I swear, I never meant for that to happen. Believe me. I... I just... lost control of the whole situation and..."

"I believe you, Hayford." Elaine said, cutting him short. When Hayford looked at her, she had a strained smile on her face, and he felt her touch his arm and rub it gently.

Elaine didn't know why she said that, but at that point in time, that was the only words that came on her mind. Something to make him feel better and less guilty. That she believed he lost control.
