Saviour

I awoke in a long tent, makeshift beds lined up, and bodies occupying them. "Nurse, he's awake!" A small boy called. It was Jarko, the one who had thrown himself at me so eagerly.

Soon after, a woman came striding over. Her face was kind, not like the other one. After seeing me, her expression didn't change, and she didn't seem to hate me. I tried to move, but my body couldn't. 'Rio huh?' I thought. His blow was devastating, and had me in sick bay.

I felt tightness on my nose, as some fabric was forcing it down. 'Did I break it during the fight.' I thought. "Ganno, how do you feel?" the nurse asked. She was standing over me, checking around my body for abnormalities.

"I feel.. exhausted." My lips struggled to release the words. "But, do you know what happened?" That fight had really taken a toll on me, and I didn't even do much. My body wasn't ready for combat situations.

"Unfortunately, I don't know much, but you can ask Jarko, he was present in the team that brought you here." she spoke. Jarko was in the group, with the hateful lady, Roma and the old guy.

Jarko came waddling over, as eager to share as ever. "Okay Ganno, I'll tell you!" his young squeaky voice brought nostalgia. Days of old, me and my younger sister playing, working on the farm.

"Okay so me and the group got there. There was two suspicious people, holding big sharp weapons. At first old man ran to fight, but the cheap shots used a long range weapon. No fair. Anyway, the shot old man and now hes hospital, but after they shot him, for some reason they just ran away." He spoke so fast, it was hard to keep up with what he was saying.

"The old man got hurt trying to save you, he's over there. Roma and the other's carried you away."Jarko said. I felt sorrow, my heart ached knowing that somebody got hurt for me.

I slowly sat up, looking around as I did. I wasn't safe in this village, I just knew it. Today I was lucky, but there might not be a tomorrow if I don't stay cautious. I felt eyes on me.

I got out of the makeshift bed, and quickly changed into my clothes, that sat there on a small stool nearby. "No Ganno, don't go. You need to rest." Jarko spoke. He tugged on my leg, trying to drag me down.

"Jarko, I can't stay here. They don't like me, the people here. I'm just gonna train to get stronger, and wait to leave for the open." I told him. What was his attachment to me. Of all the people I'd met so far, only Roma, Jarko and the nurse lady had treated me... like a human.

I'd understand if they hated me because I had done something to them, but I hadn't. Though I had no memories of this place, my heart, the one in this body, told me. I was innocent.

"Take me with you Ganno, to the open. I want to come. Let me come. Please, take me!" His words ran like crazy. He didn't even give me time to respond, and kept talking. And I didn't know how I could take him, especially when I didn't know what it was myself.

Roma walked into the medical tent. She went from bed to bed, checking up on every patient, and finally got to me. I felt sick, to the bone. I had gotten her Grandad hurt, 'she wouldn't even talk to me' I assumed. 'Negative thoughts clouded my brain, and I forced myself to look at her.

She was smiling. A bright, teary smile. "I'm so glad you're okay. I really am." She sobbed, as she wrapped her arms around my neck. I had just gotten up, my legs were shaky, and I was tasked with holding the both of us up.

"I'm gonna fall, I'm still weak Roma." I laughed as I stumbled over, trying to balance. "Roma, is there anywhere secret I can stay?" I asked. Though it was random, and would definitely ruin the mood, I needed somewhere I could hide, away from everyone else.

"I know a place, but I have to take you in the dark. When there isn't anyone to see us." She spoke quietly. Not even Jarko could know this stuff it seemed.

Roma was amazing. I really am indebted to her. She's been good to me, this entire time, and continues to be good to me. I have to thank her, some day.

I waited for nightfall, and just as she said, she did have a place for me. We walked into the forest. Not too deep, but a good distance. A small castle, broken completely. The walls were smashed in, and the wooden floors stuck out like they intended to kill.

She walked me over to a small room, not as damaged as the others. "Under this carpet." Roma pointed at the dirty velvet carpet laying there. She kicked it slightly, revealing a trap door.

I knelt down and yanked the door open. Soon after I felt a cold foot push me, and I fell down into the hole. My eyes shut tight, scared, waiting for something bad to happen. But it never came.

I cracked my eyes open, to be met with a small living space. Brown wood lined the floor, a bed, a wooden training dummy, and some books. It was clean too, 'not bad for a secret base' I thought.

"I've been working on this place since I was little, you can stay here for as long as you need." Roma spoke. She closed the trapdoor and left. Her feet clamped down on the ground for a while, until eventually the sound stopped completely.

I wanted to thank her more now. Roma was the best thing that had happened to me since I had come to this world. And she continues to be so. I don't know where I would have gone, if not here.

She was my saviour.
