Peter trudged towards the entrance of the café where his friend from medical school was impatiently waiting for him.
When he opened the door and the sound of the jingling bell along with the strong aroma of coffee welcomed him, he immediately spotted Sky who was waving at him from a booth on the far corner of the shop.
"Peter! I'm glad you could make it. I didn't know who else to call." Sky sighed in relief once his companion took the seat in front of him.
"No worries Sky. Is something the matter? You look tense." Peter asked in concern. When he got a phone call from him, Sky sounded worried about something and Peter couldn't help but respond to the Doctor's desperate help.
"Well, you remembered when you came down to PARK Hospital? When Yn got assaulted." Doctor Kim started waiting for the man sitting opposite him to process what he was about to say. And when a frowning Peter nodded signalling for the other to continue, Sky took a deep breath in.
"The police questioned Dr Lee but he kept denying the accusation. And when other victims of his testified against him, he was arrested. The victims were mostly nurses that work at PARKs, they asked for Yn's attestation but we couldn't find her and no one knew where she lived. The police settled for the other nurses' testimonies and wrapped up the case and Dr Lee was sentenced to 15 years of prison." Sky concluded, a grim expression covering his usually angelic face.
Before Peter could respond, a waiter came by their table to take their order. They both asked for an iced americano and the waiter excused himself, leaving them to go back to their previous conversation.
"That's good news! But… Why don't you seem happy about it?" Peter asked in concern, there was something more to this that made his friend disturbed.
"It's not that I'm not happy. The asshole deserved it, I personally never liked him. But the bad news is that the hospital is going bankrupt. I don't know how but the rumours spread and multiple patients and their relatives started filing out of the hospital. The majority of the staff resigned even the ones who don't work in the kids' department. Bad reviews are reported each hour." Sky complained, restlessly twirling the drinking straw in his iced americano that the waiter had just placed in front of him.
Peter took a long sip from his drink, and when the waiter bowed and left, he looked up to his friend with a confused look on his face. "All this happened in one day? Wow, the media sure is something. But what about you? Are you going to resign as well or…?" The raven-haired boy inquired, worried for his friend's career.
"I don't have another choice. The team that I work with is gone, except Yn. And even if I find a new team, the parents are refusing to keep their kids in the Hospital, they even mistrust me and I have been working with the children for 3 years now." Doctor Kim whined, dramatically running his dainty finger through his ebony hair.
Peter stayed silent leaving his friend to reminisce in whatever misery he was in. He didn't know what to say to comfort him and even if he did he couldn't because soon his phone started vibrating in his pocket, cutting through both of their streams of thoughts.
Checking the caller's ID, Peter clears his throat before answering the call. "Hello?"
"Peter, you might want to see this." The voice on the other side of the line said, picking Peter's curiosity.
"What's going on? Where are you?" Peter asked, not quite understanding why he would be called to work on his day off.
"It's better if you come here first. It's about Yn." At the mention of your name, Peter hung up and sprinted out of the café having a dumbstruck Sky following behind him.
Getting in his burgundy Buick Enclave, he turned the engine on and looked out of the window. "Are you getting in or not?" Peter restlessly asked his friend who was just standing out of the car.
Sky shook his head before opening the door to the passenger seat and getting in. He certainly wasn't aware of whatever was happening but he thought that if it was something severe, Peter could use another hand. The said boy had one thing going on his mind. What happened to you Yn?
Flashback:
"Peter?" You asked in disbelief. It couldn't be him. Why was he here? How was he here?
"Hey Yn…" His voice sounded like honey and milk. Still had that soothing feel to it. He was smiling down at you, his eyes just as warm as the feeling of his body engulfing yours.
But you couldn't stay still and enjoy it, you quickly got out of his grip and wiped away your tears.
Standing up, you glared down at him before making your way out of that damned office.
You walked with fast steps, throwing a glance over your shoulder you could see Peter catching up to you. "Yn! Wait!"
Still the same old annoying Peter. You thought, trying to walk even faster.
You opened the door to Ian's room and were pleased to see that he was happily watching TV while munching on an apple.
"Yn!... Why don't you talk to me? I seriously just saved you from a creepy old man. Aren't you at least a little grateful?" He whined not paying attention to all the kids in the room.
"Hey buddy, my shift ended and I need to get home. I'll see you tonight okay?" You signed to Ian, trying your best to block out Peter.
The boy looked behind you with curious eyes. "Who's that man? Do you know him?" Ian asked confused. He heard him call your name so, you must know him.
"No one that we should be concerned about, Ian. Now I'll get going." You answered, ruffling his hair affectionately.
You turned around, making sure to shower all the other kids with love before making your way out of the hospital, Peter still following behind you.
"Yn… Yn, where have you been all these years? Everyone was worried sick about you and- we thought something really bad happened to you after… you know." He whispered the last part so only you could hear it. Of course, you knew what he was talking about. But that was something you hated thinking of. After all, it was your fault.
You felt him grab your wrist and turn you around to him. "Talk to me Yn, what happened?" His voice was soft, persuasive even. But you could not fall for it. Not after all that happened between you.
You yanked your hand from his grip and hardened your glare at him. "Leave me alone Peter."
End flashback.
Meanwhile, Lewis was out of his mind. "Where the hell did they go? I'm sure I kept them here."
His room was upside down, a result of the desperate pursuit of his precious letters.
Climbing off the stairs two by two, Lewis made his way to the kitchen. "Mom! Did you perhaps see some letters I put in a box- Judy…" Lewis asked with a whiney voice, stopping mid-sentence when he saw his soulmate and soon-to-be wife, helping his mother prepare dinner.
She looked up at him from the pot of rice and they stared at each other for a while, before Judy decided to break the awkward silence.
"I took them… the letters." Lewis stared at her in disbelief, before sprinting upstairs to his room not giving up on looking for his lost items.
"Why would she even take them? What's it to her? I need to find them. I can't have possibly thrown them away."
"You should clean this mess before your father gets to see it. You know how he hates chaos." A voice interrupted him and when he turned around, Judy was leaning against the door frame, unbothered scanning the space.
In a moment of distress, Lewis grabbed her tightly by the shoulders, a pleading look colouring his features. "Where did you put them, huh? Why did you take them in the first place?" Lewis was beyond infuriated. He hates people going through his stuff, Judy wouldn't be an exception even if she's his fiancée. What made it all worse was that those letters were one of his most precious possessions, he has been writing them since the day his little sister disappeared. But they are gone now.
Judy just stared up at her soulmate, inspecting his features and facial expressions. Oh, how she loved this man. He's her happiness, her sadness, her anger, her fear… her life, her world. Her being. Her soul. He's her everything. That's why she was mad. She was so angry at him for what he said to her yesterday, that it felt like her soul was eating at her.
She calmly shrugged off his hands and went to sit on his bed. Lewis stayed still for a moment, he remembered his mistake towards his loving fiancée and he sulked. He turned around and crouched down by Judy's knees, placing gentle hands on them.
"Judy, you have no idea how obnoxiously enraged I am to have accused you of such a horrible disgusting thing. It was just… an -in the heat of the moment- reaction." Lewis whimpered, tears threatening to spill.
"I don't care if it was an - in the heat of the moment -reaction. I care that you don't trust me. You don't have trust in me, not even a little ounce. If you did, the thought of me cheating on you wouldn't even cross your mind." Judy spat, her voice trembling. She wanted to forgive him with all of her being, but she knew if she did right away, it would only lead to it happening again in the future.
Lewis shook his head vigorously, hoping Judy didn't believe her own words. Every fibre of his body was cursing at him for hurting his soulmate's feelings. It felt as if a fire was eating at his heart, restricting it from beating properly.
That's what happens when a soulmate bond is so strong… The single act of thinking about hurting your fated person, will not only leave them suffering, but it will have you aching to fix that crack in the bond, no matter if insignificant or not. It hurts.
"I swear it's not like that. I promise that I trust you, I trust you with all of my being. I just love you so much, that I'm afraid to lose you. I can't imagine a life without you and it hurts to even think about how it would be. I don't want a life without you, future or present. I wouldn't bear it. It was just a passing intrusive thought, I promise. I'm so sorry Judy, you have no idea… please forgive me."
Judy threw her head back, blinking away her tears. She didn't want to cry. She wasn't here for that.
She cleared her throat before speaking, not wanting to show how affected she was by the sad situation they were both in. When she made sure her voice wouldn't crack, she spoke.
"I gave the letters to Yn." Judy stated and Lewis looked up at her in disbelief.
"I hoped that if she read them she would come back. But, apparently... She didn't even notice them sitting in the basket."
There was a long pause of silence, both just lost in their thoughts.
Part of Lewis was grateful for his soulmate's intervention, but he knew it wasn't enough to persuade you to coming back home.
Snapping out of her thoughts, Judy remembered the reason behind her presence in the Seo's residence.
"I didn't come here to talk about what happened between us… or about Yn." Judy started, gaining her fiance's attention who quickly wiped away his tears and stood up, head hung low.
He understood that it needed more than a simple apology to gain Judy's forgiveness. And he swore to himself he was going to win it.
"Christopher is back. He has a plan."
