Ghost Transformation gone wrong?!

Time was slowly passing.

Inside the room, you could only hear Guihu Luixing chanting. Everything else was static as if there were no other living beings, and as if the whole room were carved out of stone.

Obviously that was not true. The was a fox pup curled on the bed. It was breathing very softly, deeply concentrated in the words the boy spoke. It one didn't observe closely, they would think it was either a statue or it was dead.

The was also something else in the room. Although you couldn't really say it was a living being, it also didn't really fit in the definition of dead.

However, out of the three beings in the room, the boy's chant affected the transforming soul the most.

After a few hours listening to the mantra, Serana unconsciously started absorbing the Qi Stones and as time passed the speed of absorption only increased.

After some time, Dark Moon woke up from her trance, even though Guihu Luixing hadn't stopped chanting.

She started looking around amazed, as if she was seeing the world for the first time. Suddenly she looked at the ceiling. She noticed she and Guihu Luixing were not alone in the room.

She was very alarmed. This was the headmaster's house! Who would dare spy on the room of the headmaster's son?! Are they tired of living?!

"Gau! Gau! Gau!" Dark Moon barked as loud as she could to warn Guihu Luixing of the intruder.

The noise obviously interrupted the chanting, but Guihu Luixing wasn't upset about it, as he was already reaching his limit after eight hours of uninterrupted chanting.

He was much more curious about what made Dark Moon act like that. Even though she always acted like a spoiled princess, she was an intelligent girl and knew when she had to keep quiet. If even so she made such loud noises, it was because something happened.

"What's the matter, Dark Moon?" he asked.

"Gau! Gau! Gau! Gau!" she kept barking while looking at the ceiling.

When Guihu Luixing looked up he didn't see anything. He was about to think Dark Moon was going crazy when he suddenly remembered something.

He started to use his six senses, sharpened by the Six Senses Method and the Primordial Soul Mantra. He then could "see" Serana floating around the ceiling. Dark Moon was looking directly at her.

Guihu Luixing now understood what the problem was. What he couldn't understand was how Dark Moon could see Serana. Even a normal Qi Gathering Realm cultivator, or in this case, beast, could not see souls.

Not even Guihu Luixing could, if not for his special abilities. He didn't delve deep into the mystery yet, however. He still had a fox to calm down.

"Dark Moon. Dark Moon, it's okay. She's not a intruder. She's here on my orders."

"Gau! Ga-... Guh?" Dark Moon was clearly surprised. She had never seen nor heard about Guihu Luixing commanding ghost.

"She's Serana. A soul I contracted the other day. She's currently in the process of becoming a ghost." He continued.

Dark Moon nodded, to sign she understood. But somehow she didn't like it. She felt like there shouldn't be secrets between Guihu Luixing and her. They were supposed to be the closest of partners after all.

At this time, Antonietta came inside his room.

"Luixing, what happened? Why was Dark Moon barking so loud?" she asked.

Having been living in the Ghost Fox Valley Sect all her life, she obviously knew how to differentiate between the foxes's barks. Dark Moon's barks were clearly barks of alarm.

"Nothing much, mother." answered Guihu Luixing "She though there could be an intruder, but it must have been just her mind playing tricks on her, as she just woke up."

His mother gave a quick glance around. She didn't believe anyone would be so bold as to enter the headmaster's house uninvited.

"Dark Moon." called Antonietta "I heard your situation from your parents. I think it's great that you're trying so hard. But I think you should properly pace yourself. This might be an sign of exhaustion."

She proceeded to gently scold Dark Moon for a while longer. Dark Moon felt a bit unjustified, but she didn't respond, as she knew Antonietta was doing it out of love for her. She just sat there an took the scolding.

After a while Antonietta left to return to her business.

"I'm sorry Dark Moon." Guihu Luixing apologised "I don't want anyone to know about my abilities. Not even my parents."

Dark Moon felt it was odd. Why would he need to hide these kind of things from them? But she didn't ask and just nodded.

"Thanks, Dark Moon." Guihu Luixing thanked her while stroking her beautiful fur.

Suddenly, both Dark Moon and Guihu Luixing looked towards Serana.

The Qi in the surroundings was being agitated, as if suddenly someone dropped a giant rock in the middle of a lake, the point of impact obviously being Serana's position.

After some time vibrating and moving around rampantly, all the Qi in the room started to spin around Serana, as if had become a whirlpool.

Guihu Luixing knew that when a soul became a ghost, some sort of phenomenon would occur. However, it shouldn't have been this large. It was clearly not normal.

Meanwhile, Serana was going through a painful process.

Normally, her soul should have slowly absorbed thr Qi Stones and become a ghost in the process. However, because of the Primordial Soul Mantra, this process clearly happened in a very different fashion.

First, the process should have been very slow. Souls usually take somewhere between two weeks a a month to turn into ghosts, depending on their talents. Serana, however, managed to successfully absorb the Qi Stones in a few hours during Guihu Luixing's chant.

Second, the usual process of turning from a soul to a ghost was only applied to souls of mortals with little to no cultivation, and certainly no Soul Cultivation. Serana, on the other hand, because she heard the Primordial Soul Mantra, broke through in Soul Cultivation during her transformation.

Lastly, while Guihu Luixing checked the soul of the young man that wanted revenge and destruction above everything else, he didn't check the other souls. The cause of that was because every ghost he saw inside the Ghost Fox Valley Sect was simply a [Regular] with no traces of change. He assumed every soul and ghost could only be a [Regular].

This was obviously wrong. If he had checked Serana's soul, he would find her soul had very strong [Fated] characteristics, while she wasn't a [Fated] yet.

In other words. She just needed an opportunity.

It seemed her opportunity arrived in the form of Guihu Luixing.

While the situation was evolving in the room, insode Serana's mind, another phenomenon was happening.

Serana was repeatedly seeing the most painful moments of her life.

The day she received the news of her parents deaths.

The harassment she suffered from her family as she tried to run her parents' business.

The days she spent locked inside the mansion, sometimes being alone for so long, she almost forgot how to talk.

The beatings she suffered from her husband.

The day she died.

Every scene kept repeating and becoming more painful as time passed.
