It was 7:00 o'clock when the plane landed in Anchorage Alaska airport James woke up when it touched down on the runway. James get out of his seat and grab is duffel bag and a massive hiking bag for this trip. James walked off the plane and first thing that brought joy to him was the snow covered mountain pecks glowing a reddish and orange color of the morning sun. He walked through customs and called a helicopter pilot to take him to his home town Great Bass. Cause the roads to the town during this time are iced up and covered in deep and thick snow. The only way to reach it quickly was to a helicopter to the town. James reached the helicopter area he walked up to an old man fixing a old Russian helicopter Mi-8 from the Cold War. The old man repainted it to a full complete white and put the a USA flag over the Soviet star with a new serial number to register it in the aircraft record databanks. When James reached the old man, the man lifted his head and looks at James, and a old mountain man voice came out of the thick white beard.
"Ah, you must be James Oakley. I'm Pops, nice to meet you son." Pops said shaking James hand.
"Yup. So I guess I'm riding with you up to Great Bass right?" James said shaking Pops hand.
"Yeah, you can seat with the mail packages or ride up front it's your choice son." Pops said climbing into the cockpit seat of the helicopter and starting the the preflight checks.
"Alright then." James said putting his stuff in the back in the netting so nothings would get damaged during the flight to Great Bass.
The sound of the old Soviet engine starting up deafening and James put on the headset to hear Pops. It was a 12 hour ride refuel 5 time during the trip. Pops came in low through a valley clearing and it was a bit bumpy cause of the turbulence from the mountain winds. Pops flying this route everyday was a like a normal Tuesday to old Pops. The helicopter was old but it did its job well. James looked around and spotted lights in the distance pointing to it so Pops can see it. Pops saw it and put the helicopter in a left bank and radio the helicopter station that he was carrying cargo to deliver to the town. The all clear was given. Pops flew the helicopter low and hovered the landing pad started to land. Pops landed a bit hard but that was the normal wear and tear for the helicopter. James laughed shaking his hand and shakes Pops hand again and thanked him for the ride. Pops smiled and unloaded mail and gets fuel pod for the helicopter and refuels it. Has James get his duffel bag and his massive hiking pack and walked from the helicopter station.
James sees Great Bass city/town and has old memories. See visitors and people that still live there. He walked up a quiet road into a neighborhood. Smiles at the old memories and comes the end of the road. James looked up to see his old home where he grew up. Knocked on the door and sees the door open and sees a girl that he has seen in a while. James barely recognized her it was an old crush that asked for his love Hannah L. Smith a 29 year old Midwest city girl.
"Howdy, long time no see Hannah." James said walking through the door to put his stuff on the couch.
"J-James!?!" Hannah said with a soft, smooth, and sweet Midwest accent.
"In the flash." James said back smiling.
"Holy crap!" Hannah hugging him like a old friend.
"You still doing nursing with astrology reach search?" James asked unzipping his jacket and taking it off and putting it on the couch.
"Yeah, nothing new really." Hannah said with a sarcastic tone back to James. Then she put her bear skin jacket on, and then a scarf.
"Thanks for looking after her. I'll call you when she passes or I need anything. See yea kiddo." James said happy
"Bye you old dog." Hannah giggled and went out the door to go back to the lighthouse she was staying in.
James forgot how much she changed when they met at a party and now she became a good look woman. James didn't dwell on the thought for two long and walked into his mothers room to see her asleep. He kisses her forehead and pat her hand and goes make coffee. James looked out the window to see the aura. He thought to himself that really pretty and nice. He goes to open the curtains for his mother to look out them one last time, but has he was doing the lights start to flash an electronics in the room. His mother's life supports start to arc and sparks after that his mother was gone. Electricity was gone for good. James hold back tear walk out the closing the door, and walked back to where the fire is and lays down on the couch to listen to the world and falls asleep.
Next day James needed to see if Hannah was okay. He unzipped his duffel bag pulling out his old military gear and warm clothes. After he finished putting his bulletproof vest on over his chest and his helmet with a beanie under it. He had unzipped his duffel bag and a lever action 45-70, and a 45 mm pistol in it holster on his chest. He took non-perishable food and put in his duffel bag and walked to Hannah's light house in the gray morning with a thick lay of fog. He found a map of the city and saw a path to the light house and walked into the city town of Great Bass Alaska.
