The girl with the missing teeth spoke with a slight lisp:
"I want to do two things." she muttered.
"One is to eat fish, eat until I'm stuffed," Little Fish said with a slightly embarrassed expression. "The other is to... to get off the boat and walk on land just once. But it's not that Little Fish has wild fantasies of escaping—just... just that I want to climb that mountain up front, to see what's behind it. I've heard there are even higher mountains beyond, but if they're taller, why can't I see them from the boat?"
Another maiden serving as a dressing attendant couldn't help but giggle, her eyes mocking as she looked at Little Fish, who was daydreaming again.
The girl with missing teeth averted her gaze, closed her mouth, and didn't dare meet her companion's eyes, her own filled with bafflement and discouragement.
"Oh."
