"What about your story?"

"AAA! YOU SCARED ME I THOUGHT YOU-" he screamed while placing a hand on his chest..

"Hahaha! I'm sorry I didn't mean to scare you hahaha! You should've seen your face though!"

Jake looked away—His face was slowly turning red from embarrassment..

"It's not my fault that this floor looks like something straight out of a horror movie.. Anyone would get scared if you show up so suddenly like that" he mumbled while avoiding eye contact..

"I'm sorry about that" Abby wiped away the tears of laughter..

" What are you doing here?" He looked at his wristwatch to check the time..

"Your shift ended an hour ago, why are you still here?"

"Someone asked me to arrange some papers for them.. They had to leave urgently cause of some reason so they asked me for help"

"Someone gave you the work that was assigned to them when your shift was about to end, and left?"

"Mhm" Abby nodded innocently..

Jake knew that the 'urgent' work that person was talking about was nothing but an excuse..

That's how seniors from Abby's department treat the newbies..

He sighed..

"It's late you should go home"

"What about you" they asked..

For some reason their concern made Jake blush—He looked away and said..

"I still have some work left"

"Can I help?" Abby asked while looking at jake, fidgeting with their hands..

"Huh?"

"I mean.. these.." Abby pointed at the papers on Jake's desk.. Words written on those notes were barely readable because of the coffee stains..

"What are you going to do about these?"

"These? Well I have to show it to Ruby so I'll have to rewrite them" he said while typing something on his computer..

"I can rewrite these for you"

"What?" He finally removed his gaze away from his computer to Abby..

"I mean it's like this because of me so.. That's the least I can do right?"

"You don't have to.. I can do it"

"But I want to.. please?"

Abby knew Jake already had a lot of work to do and they just made it even worse for him which was making them feel guilty..

Jake gave up and nodded.. He guided them on how to do it properly..

Abby sat down on the desk next to Jake's..

They turned on the computer and begin to type in the words from Jake's notes..

After each minute they would ask Jake questions about the task and he would calmly guide them..

If it wasn't Abby but someone else disturbing Jake while he was working, he would've gotten mad long ago.. Jake hates getting disturbed while working more than anything else..

He was the type of person who hated multitasking..

But every time Abby would call his name or tap on his arm or turn in his direction to ask him a question, a soft smile would appear on his face as he would explain it gently to them..

Abby had no idea about the effect they had on Jake..

He was loving it.. For the first time in a while, he liked getting disturbed..

By coincidence, by the time Jake finished his work, Abby was done printing the papers Jake asked for—Both of them finished their tasks at the same time..

Jake stretched and yawned.. His legs were numb and his neck was hurting..

'Guess we'll have to buy pain relief patches' he thought..

As the elevator door opened Jake and Abby walked out, talking about random stuff—But it was time to leave now..

He didn't want his time with them to be over yet.. Abby was about to say goodbye when Jake suddenly spoke..

"Do you.. uh.. maybe.. wanna.. go home.. together?"

" Uh- I-I mean.. We're going in the same direction and.. everything... So... Yeah"

He was starting to get nervous when Abby agreed..

"Sure"

They didn't mind walking home with Jake.. They didn't know why but they felt safe around him.. They felt like they could trust him—But they didn't know why.. Or more like they could not remember why..

They were waiting on the bus stand, waiting when Abby spoke..

"I've noticed.. You called Miss Grace by her first name.. Are you close with her"

Abby asked out of curiosity..

Jake nodded..

"Yeah, I know her since a year before I joined this company.. You can say that we're friends.. I usually don't call her by her first name in the office but since it was just us there I accidentally.. called her Ruby"

"I see.. Tell me more"

Jake chuckled..

"Why do you wanna know more about us?" He asked..

Abby shrugged..

"Well It's better than saying nothing at all .. Silence is boring~"

Jake admired every single thing about them—From their little shrug to their honesty..

"Well.. We met in a pretty life-and-death situation.. Let's just say that we both were having a hard time so yeah that's how we became friends"

"Hard time? What happened?"

"Well.. It won't be nice to tell someone else's story without their permission-"

"I'm not talking about Ms Grace.. What about.. Your story"

Jake was speechless.. He didn't know what to say..

It kind of made him happy to think that Abby, the person who was like a miracle to him, wanted to know more about him—But at the same time, he didn't know how to respond to their question..

He couldn't tell Abby what he went through..

It wasn't like he didn't want to.. He wanted to tell them everything and then hug them and never let go, but he couldn't..

He thinks of himself as a curse, he thought that it was a good thing that Abby couldn't remember a person like him but at the same time, it was hurting him..

Luckily, the bus came at the right time.. Jake used it as a chance to change the topic and ignored the question Abby asked..

But it didn't stop Abby to get more curious about him..

The thing they both were unaware of was that destiny was making its move already..
