Maximus thought that the idea of using a medium to form a Runic Path was the most feasible solution for him, who lacked the necessary Soul Force for a high-level conventional Runic Path.
Furthermore, since the medium he would be using would be his own novel, there shouldn't be any problem with the concept visualization aspect. He only needed to worry about the Soul Force requirement as usual when inscribing each Runic Construct for the medium.
Although he knew of using mediums to reify and exert supernatural powers rather than the conventional method widely employed by others in the world, he never once thought about applying such a method to himself. That was mainly because the people who use this method only end up with mediocre supernatural powers.
For example, if someone with a low Soul Force Limit were to use a rail gun or any type of gun as a medium, they would only be able to use supernatural powers like enhance firepower or increase shooting speed and the like with their Runic Path. That would be a waste of a Runic Path, according to him.
Even though people like Maximus, who lacked the essential Soul Force Limit needed for a conventional Runic Path, could rely on the medium method to acquire their power, they would still be limited in the display of their abilities as compared to someone who genuinely met the criteria for the Soul Force Limit and chose to use a medium regardless.
Such people were far and few in-between, but they are not too rare as everyone would always have their own aspirations and dreams to follow, and that meant varied choices could be made based on their personal preferences.
There are even those with lesser Soul Force Limit than Maximus, who could only wield the mundane supernatural powers at the beginning of their Runic Path's creation, but they became successful individuals in the end. That was because those people usually did not become Runic Combatants. Instead, they choose other kinds of occupations suitable for their Runic Path.
With that being said, there are some medium users out there that despite initially having weaker Soul Force Limit, eventually end up wielding extraordinary combat prowess, but compared to those with conventional Runic Paths, they were considered extremely rare.
These extraordinary medium Runic Path supernatural power wielders could even contend against those with orthodox Runic Paths, hence why they are respected by those with weaker Soul Force Limits just like them, and even worshipped and admired as their idols.
Leaving all that aside, Maximus stood up, feeling energetic for some reason. Rather, whenever he has an idea for something, he always feels energetic and forgoes all his previous problems to concentrate on bringing his idea to life.
This time was no different than other times. Thus, he turned to the perplexed Nini, who had no idea why her Master was suddenly smiling from ear to ear and said: "Nini, we have a job to do."
[Really? What job, Master?]
"A very fascinating job."
[Fascinating job?]
"Yes. We're going to create a base Runic Construct for a new Runic Path."
[Already? Nini doesn't understand. Could Master explain?]
"You would know as soon as we begin."
[Understood, Master. What do Master want Nini to do? Nini would do anything to make Master happy!]
"Hahaha! Is that so? You don't have to do that. You're just a child that could barely talk properly."
[Nini is not a child!]
Maximus shook his head and said: "Whatever you say, but you'll always be a child that I created."
Moments later, Nini suddenly said: [Then what about the room, Master? Should Nini clean it up beforehand?]
"That— "
Buzz—
Suddenly, a loud buzzing sound reverberated in the room, causing Maximus to halt in his sentence.
"Damn it, who's calling me at this hour? Isn't it already eleven in the evening?" He was annoyed that someone was calling him at this late hour. Especially when he just had an inspiration that he wanted to execute right away.
Moments later, Maximus grabbed this globe-like spherical device hanging from the wall and placed it on top of his left hand's wrist. In response, the spherical device released two mechanical bands that wrapped around his wrist from both the left and right corners of the spherical devices. It strapped around his wrist like a wristwatch.
After that, he tapped on the surface of the globe-like spherical device. Following this, the globe-like spherical device restructured itself in a second, its appearance becoming that of an actual circular watch with a black screen. However, there were no indications on the black screen as it was not meant for telling time, but for controlling the soon-to-be projected screen.
Within the next moments, the restructured globe-like sphere on the device was reassembled and then quickly formed a circular frame that expanded until it was the size of a circular hand mirror before projecting the name of the caller on the screen that had been constructed by tiny laser lights immediately afterwards.
"Oh, it's that bald fraudulent visual artist again… What does he want from me this time?" Maximus frowned slightly when he saw the name of the caller.
After pondering for a brief moment, Maximus decided to pick up the call. He then tapped the black screen on the spherical device to receive the call. Soon, a voice resounded from the device on his wrist and the circular frame displayed a face with a seemingly friendly smile plastered on it.
[Hey, Maggie, How's it been? I got a new commission for you if you're up for it.]
"Can you refrain from calling me Maggie, Donatello? I told you this already. I hate that nickname. That aside, what is the commission this time? It had better not be from one of those arrogant and retarded brats from last time." Maximus frowned deeply.
This Donatello was someone that he came to know when he came to Mystic Runic City to start his career as an independent person. Furthermore, he was one of the talented comic and visual artists who create concepts for Concept Visualization for those seeking to create their Runic Path.
They used to call each other brothers as an indication of their close friendship, but due to certain events, they grew apart as friends and were now more like businessmen that mainly contacted each other for business-related purposes. Donatello kept trying to wedge their friendship back together, but Maximus wasn't having any of it.
[Well…] Donatello was speechless and couldn't answer his question right away.
"So it was from them? Then, forget about it. I don't want the commission. I'm busy with something of paramount importance, so I will hang up now—"
[W-Wait! Hear me out for a second!]
"Then start talking, and make it brief. I have something to get back to, after all. I can't be wasting my time talking to you if it's not anything important."
[Magg— ahem, Magnus. The commission this time was specially accepted by me, claiming that I would find someone highly suitable for the job, and the only person suitable for this commission in this city that I know of besides those pompous experts is you. Besides, didn't you tell me to call you for these kinds of commissions when we first met?] Donatello said, trying to justify himself.
'That was before I found out your true colors, you fraudster!' Maximus inwardly cursed at him.
Despite his thoughts, Maximus was unusually pleased to hear his praise as his ego inflated from hearing that he was the only one for the job. However, he didn't show it on his face and pondered for a brief moment.
"Hmm… So what is the commission this time?" He asked a moment later.
Donatello felt relieved and quickly said: [It is the same old commission. It's the kind that you've always liked to take on, engraving and imprinting of Runic Constructs. As always, your job is to assist them during the engraving and imprint aspect of the process. You don't need to do anything more, or less than that."
"So it's that kind of commission again..." Maximus muttered under his breath and then said: "If only I could get commissions related to creating Runic Paths, I would instantly get rich with just one Runic Path creation. Why won't anyone call on me for such commissions?"
Donatello explained: [As you know, most people only seek famous Runic Experts in this field to better their chances of success when engraving and imprinting their Runic Path. Although they could consult the ones who created the Runic Constructs for them, those people are too busy with many other contracts that they do not have time for such tasks. They also have to make ends meet, after all. Because of that, Runic Path Engraving and Imprinting commissions like this one are for people who are knowledgeable about runes and soul vessels. Hence why I thought to find you, who was adept at what you do, even though you don't have an official ID yet.]
'And that I am cheap to afford compared to those who had registered, am I right?' Maximus sarcastically added inwardly.
"That's not what I am asking and you know that. Whatever. Forget that I mentioned that." He said a moment later.
"..." Donatello turned silent for a short while in response as if he was considering something on his end.
[So, are you accepting the commission or not? Please accept it for old times' sake.] Donatello asked him moments later in a somewhat pleading tone.
'Listen to this guy yap on… About old times? Don't make me laugh. We are way past that line.' Maximus thought resentfully.
Naturally, Maximus was well aware of how things work in this world. Therefore, even without getting a response from Donatello, he could guess some things.
Most Runic Construct Creators such as Mister Cones needed official certification from the government to back up their skills. Furthermore, they needed to complete at least three Runic Path constructs successfully. In this way, they would have the chance to establish themselves as famous and renowned Runic Construct Creators throughout their nation or city.
Therefore, those who are just starting out always struggle to receive their very first commission. Sometimes, they would have no other choice but to resort to paying informants to look for commissioners who are seeking to have or are interested in having their Runic Path created by them. Those people usually had their own circumstances, such as being unable to afford a prominent Runic Construct Creator due to not having enough funds or other circumstances of that nature.
If the Runic Construct Creator succeeds in the future and that person becomes famous or prominent by using the Runic Path that they had constructed for them, they would also become famous for the success of the commissioner.
That was how every Runic Construct Creator generally starts out. However, they eventually gain enough reputation to become renowned individuals if they are skilled enough.
