The next couple of days roll by in a blur. I finally got a hold of my Grandma Pen, and she's currently on her way back from whatever tropical paradise she's visiting. Apparently, coordinating a return from a cruise is a bit of a challenge. She had to wait until they docked at a port and then take a couple of puddle jumpers before she finally reached a country with a large enough airport to get her home. She should be here any minute now, having landed a couple of hours ago.

I'm resting my head back in the worn and tattered hospital chair by my mother's side. My neck is stiff as I crane it back in an effort to relieve the tension that's building in my shoulders. Kaden headed back today because he had classes, so the darkened room with the beeping and whooshing, is a constant reminder that all that stands between my mother and death are these machines.
