A Typical Dinner With My Family

7:56 pm - 12th Sunday

Just then her mother called from downstairs. "Kids! It's time for dinner!" That was when the race was on, whoever got there first, steaming hot meal, praise from their mother, and the best seat at the table which exclusively has a soda for that dinner. And that soda was in fact a treasure in that household, only drinking soda occasionally on the weekends, getting to drink it on a weekday was like hitting jackpot for the three of them.

"I'm on it!" Juliette leaps onto her feet and dashes down the stairs, no sign of her brothers, she exhaled relief. She could make it this time, this time for sure.

"What was that?" Elijah smiled, putting one leg over the other while sitting in the best seat. A loud groan followed behind Juliette when she realized Carter also attempted. "Look at you both," he grinned evilly pointing at the older siblings. "Hah."

"Now, now Eli, respect your older siblings," their mother said putting a tray of what smelled like chicken gravy onto the table. It landed with a soft 𝘵𝘩𝘶𝘥.

"Of course mom," he looked at the siblings at smirked. "Sorry about that guys," he said in the sweetest voice you could possibly think of. After their mother exited the kitchen to head upstairs and retrieve her phone he then shook his hands as if Draco Malfoy was saying "𝘋𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘰𝘳, 𝘥𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘰𝘳!"

"Oh, you little-"

"What did I miss?" Their dad asked opening the front door after a long day of work.

"Nothing, nothing," Carter waved in dismissal. Juliette shot her brother a look, before looking back at Elijah.

"How was work?" She questioned through her teeth, gritting, she took the seat next to her brother and watched her dad head into the bathroom to wash his hands.

"Alright, boring as usual though," scattered chuckles filled the house as their mother came back down with a huge smile. Juliette's parents were what you called, lovestruck lovers, no matter how old or what situation they get in they love each other to their fullest. The boys consider it disgusting but Juliette enjoyed how much they take care of each other and love one another.

"Welcome back from work, hun," their mother threw her arms around her husband and kissed him on the lips before they twirled.

"Ew," Carter frowned, his eyebrows scrunched, following up with Elijah pretending to throw up.

"Carter if you frown that much, you'll have wrinkles by the time you turn 30," Juliette watched her brother, holding back her laughter from his hilarious reaction to the married couple kissing.

"Oh, be quiet," he hissed taking the seat next to his sister. Her parents finally sat down to begin the mouthwatering food. "So, did anything interesting happen? Anyone?" Carter was the only person in the family apart from his dad to be a good conversation starter, the rest of them found it hard to begin. "Excluding the 𝘚𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘳 𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 scenario," he eyed Elijah after saying those words.

"I had a conversation with a friend and it looks like we're going to a party this weekend!" Juliette's mother squealed. "Every could wear matching clothing!"She was always eager to pick matching clothing.

"Mom, we can all just wear something casual?" He took a moment and bit through the piece of chicken he had placed on his fork. "How does that sound?" He brought the glass to his lips. Juliette always wondered how her brother was genetically a part of this family, he was too perfect to be here, but as always when she brought that topic up with him he would just shrug it off.

"Fine," her mother wasn't used to her kids choosing their own clothes, not because they were older but because even when she was their age her parents would still choose her clothes for her. "Although there are some limits on what to wear and what not to wear, okay?"

The three of them nodded and waited eagerly for their mother to continue. "No short sleeves, no showing tummies, and no shorts, alright? It's a formal party."

"Wait but then do I 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 to wear a suit?" Not that it bothered her, but just to confirm it. The dining table had fallen silent. "Mom?"

"Give me a moment, darling," her mother tapped something quickly on her phone and before any could see what she had written, she switched it off and tossed it aside. "No, the choice is yours, but if you do wear a suit, no short sleeves or bellies showing, 'kay?"

"M-o-o-m," Juliette groaned, her mother was an extremely cautious woman, sometimes a little 𝘵𝘰𝘰 cautious for her liking. "Why would I wear something like that?" She whined, unhappy about what her mother assumed she would wear. "Besides I'm just going to sit on the side the whole time."

"Aren't we all?" Carter joked patting Elijah on the back, a sweet gesture, the boys take care of each other so easily.

"It's Astronomy we're two worlds apart"

"Okay boys, Jules, why don't you go on and head upstairs, you all have school tomorrow," she replied as the three of them got up to rinse their plates to then stack in the dishwasher. As they headed upstairs, Carter and Elijah immediately discussed who was going to take the TV on the top floor and the middle floor.

Typically they split it among themselves but this time they agreed on sharing one and letting Juliette have a TV of her choice. She denied her once-in-a-lifetime offer and simply headed to her room to continue writing in her notebook, just for fun.

Her usual Sunday looked like this, mornings were spending time with the family watching a really popular program with new episodes every weekend and then eating lunch and heading out to the library. she preferred it that way, occasionally they would go to an event but even then occasionally for her family was pretty rare.

She sat on her white cushioned chair and stretched her arms in front of her. Once she finished setting up to begin writing she picked up her phone and scrolled through her Spotify account, then she found her 𝘓𝘪𝘬𝘦𝘥 𝘚𝘰𝘯𝘨𝘴 and clicked the play button at the top right corner.

"We drive through the woods, rich neighborhoods to watch

We joked as we looked that they were to good for us"
